Unbearable Bears
As we were approaching a home in Ave Maria for Outreach Visitation this last Sunday evening, my team member received a call from his wife who lives in that neighborhood. A wild, 250-pound bear had just entered a garage and nuzzled the lady who lives there. After the shock and resulting panic, she escaped into the street. A neighbor rescued her. The Wildlife officials were not able to get there in time, but valiant police officers did. Dr. Hayes Wicker Unable to be tranquilized, the bear charged them. They Senior Pastor shot him and put him down. Some would say they had missed their bear sensitivity training! Our law enforcement officials have generally been told not to harm the bears and other wildlife. Of course, their lives and that of the neighbors were threatened, and they had no choice. We face all kinds of bears in our culture today, which are frankly unbearable. We are told to be sensitive to different belief systems, even to the point of endangering our own freedoms and government. Christians cannot tolerate untruth. Evil cannot be tamed or trusted. Deceivers, as 2 John refers to them, are always protective of their spiritual offspring and territory. Proverbs 17:12 speaks of the threat of a bear robbed of her cubs. Though the last light brown Palestinian bear was killed in Upper Galilee just before World War II, spiritual bears still roam our world. We will have Dr. Hank Hanegraaf as a guest speaker next week, known for his Bible Answer Man national radio broadcast. Hank is one of the most courageous, outspoken, and articulate apologist-defenders of the faith in America. He is an expert on cults and how to explain Christianity in a hostile culture. He is my friend, the father of twelve children, and was born in the Netherlands. Hank is a prolific author, having written various books, including Counterfeit Revival, Has God Spoken?, and Christianity in Crisis. I am sure that he will have a relevant word concerning the national scene and the issues which threaten to devour us. He recognizes that we are not dealing with fuzzy, soft huggie bears.

Operation Christmas Child In the Missions Kiosk

Show the love of Jesus through the power of a simple gift. Operation Christmas Child kicks-off this weekend. Stop by the Missions Kiosk (or tables in the Fellowship Hallway) and pick up your prewrapped Christmas shoe boxes. Have fun shopping for toys, hard candy, school supplies, toiletries, and clothing for a needy girl or boy. Then bring the shoe box back to one of the tables next week. Remember that in addition to receiving your Christmas gift, each child will receive a book with the gospel message of Jesus Christ in his or her own language. Lets make Christmas a little brighter this year and reach the children and families of the world for Christ. If you have any questions, please call Jody at 591-1895.
