TeamLuby Update Week of November 4, 2012 Spring Street School Mrs.

Lubys class

Thanks to everyone who helped with our Fall Festival and our Bulb Brigade! These activities cannot happen without your continued support. Also, congratulations to Connor L., Korinna, Bella, Sarah, John, Will, Bridget, and Mrs. Luby who ran Saturdays SSS race! Great Times! Parent-Teacher Conferences will continue on Monday and Tuesday of this week and are scheduled for 15 minutes each. Please bring your questions and concerns and try to be on time and I will do my best as well. If we determine more time is needed, we can discuss at a later date. The front entryway will be home to photos of current and former family military personnel for the next couple of weeks. If any member of your family is currently part of the Armed Forces or was in the past, please send in a photo to display in our lobby. This project is in conjunction with Veterans Day. Barbara OConnor, author of How to Steal a Dog and other well-known childrens books will be visiting SSS on Thursday! Math Club meets Wed. 11-7 from 8-8:30 AM. We will continue work with decimals.

A-Raking We Will Go Community Service Project! On Saturday, November 17 (8:30 11:00 AM), many of us will assist a local senior citizen or two and rake their yards for the winter. Our scarecrow stories have been completed and will be sent home to type. If you cannot print from home, e-mail the story to me so it can be printed at school. The children will begin another narrative late week about fall. Math We will continue with decimals adding, subtracting, estimating, ordering, and thousandths!
EVERYDAY MATH FAMILY LETTERS can be found on-line this year! As in past years, they contain unit vocabulary, activities, and selected homework answers. First, we used our artistic side and drew the cycle in our notebooks. Then we looked at some interactive websites that helped us to better understand how the three types of rocks form. Finally, we used the laptops and learned more by checking out a website called Rock Hounds. This week we will review the rock cycle using all of our notes and even act out before moving on to the last part of our Earth Materials unit, soil.

Social Studies The children will complete their East Region map this week and continue to practice their states and capitals.
