This event was co-organized by DA+C Festival and Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah (MGTF), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and was part of Tourism Malaysias 1Malaysia Contemporary Art Tourism 2012. The 1MCAT programme re:GENEration consisted of Exhibitions, a 2-day Media Art & Heritage Workshop and a 1-day Mini 1MCAT Carnival. The workshop was led by the Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah Director, Assoc. Prof. Hasnul Jamal Saidon and assisted by facilitators from MGTF and DA+C. Participants applied their new skills by creating storyboards based on the four emotions which were Sedih(Sadness),Gembira (Happiness),Bangga(Proud) and Kecewa(Disappointment). The storyboard was built up based on the students family stories.

RAYA LIGHTS & SOUND SHOW 2012

RAYA Lights & Sound Show is a 1-night event aimed at promoting heritage through new media technology, video projection mapping (VPM) at its best combined with traditional Boria. It becomes a celebration of lights and sound as colorful visuals and kaleidoscope patterns are projected onto Penangs Town Hall. This Penang State-initiated event was especially organized in conjunction with Hari Raya and the Malaysia Day celebrations, held on the 16 of September 2012 from 8.00pm to 11.00pm at the Penang Town Hall, Pulau Pinang. It was organized by DAM Productions, commissioned by Penang Global Tourism and main anchor sponsored by IJM Land. The event was launched and officiated by the respected Penang State Minister, Dato Lim Guan Eng.

During the Boria sketch performance, the VPM projects a face onto the building and it slowly begins to interact and respond to the actors dialogue. The VPM had repeated threetimes throughout the night starting from 9.15pm, 9.45pm and 10.15pm.

re:GENEration WORKSHOP

re:GENEration was a 3-day Media Art & Heritage workshop where participants are taught basic digital photography, video and storyboard. Based on the students family stories, the workshop guides and teaches students on audio-visual making techniques in creating storyboards for musical performances. It was held from 14-16 September 2012 at the Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Eighteen Form 1 students from Sekolah Menengah St. George Balik Pulau took part in the workshop.

Participants worked with their storyboards by creatively taking photographs within their surroundings in the museum. They also had the opportunity to experience music-making by playing with other forms of traditional instruments apart from the gamelan. Lastly, the participants presented a multimedia performance that combined digital media and traditional gamelan music for the public at the 1MCAT mini carnival. Other activities at the carnival included Batik Art, Soap Bubbles, Cosmo Dome, Kebun Bunyi, Water Rocket and Wayang Kulit which was open to the public as well.

The RAYA Lights & Sound Show consisted of live video projection mapping (VPM), traditional Boria and other traditional performances as well. The traditional Boria was performed by the Boria Asli group, which was lead by Mr.Omara.
