Legends comes to SHS

British legendary Athlete Paula Dunn was on hand to visit SHS to hand out Olympic Value Awards to seven students showing the values of Courage, Excellence, Respect, Equality, Determination, Inspiration, and Friendship. They were nominated by staff and voted on by the PE team. The each receive MUFC and England Rugby League tickets, and a commemorative certificate. Paula Dunn has represented GB at two Olympics and 3 Commonwealth games winning 10 senior medals. She is now the Sprint and Relay Coach for Team GB and the Manager of Paralympics GB. A true inspiration of what someone from our community can achieve. It was also attended by are newly announced Elite Athlete Group who are being given individual programs to launch their elite sporting aspirations.

How sport shapes us all Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

My 2012 Legacy. As part of the London 2012. Legacy, we ask staff about their favourite moment and how its changed them.. This month, resident Media Mogul Mr Hill Mogul What was your favourite moment of London 2012? Mo Farahs Gold doubleamazing moments we all shared! How was London 2012 important to the country? It was important to show how well we organise things and also to hear a crowd lifting the sportsmen and women. What do you hope is the legacy of London 2012? That people will take up more sport and more funding will be available to the sports that were seconds or inches away from medals. Also that the spirit that the games were played continues into other sports, especially football. What is your personal legacy? I wrote an email to the BBC saying that athletics was the best Saturday night television I had seen since the golden age of TV in the seventies - and now my parents and I are going to go and watch more live sport. it's an inspiration to me personally when I see men and women older than me competing in sport - I think at least I should be doing more than throwing darts! I now I will!

Fixtures are available to see on the new boards and training is Friday after school. Yr 7 Boys Rugby recently attended a Rugby Union coaching clinic at Trafford MV rugby club. Now normally we focus on rugby league via our Salford Reds partnership, but any sport is good sport we say and we are happy to see students embracing Rugby Union! A great time was had! Well done to Naomi Rumley and Yusif Shankanti! Winners of the Girls and Boys Sports Awards for the Class of 2012. Both were stunning examples of PE students. We are very proud of you!
