Next Wednesday, Australia (and New Zealand) marks
ANZAC Day, which has increasingly become a very
specialdayinthelifeofournaon.ANZACDayalmost
invariably falls close to Easter, and one cannot help
but be impressed by the Easter symbolism which
permeatesalltheinterwoventhemesofANZACDay.

ANZAC Day is a deep and complex event in the

Australian psyche. Civic rituals and prayers occur in
every town and suburb in the land (including ours).

reveals; it is a day of naonal identy, an Australian
coming of age a decade and a half aer the
formaon of the Commonwealth; and it is a story of
victory in defeat, survival and life in the face of
overwhelmingodds.

It is deeply moving to recognise that at the heart of

the Australian psyche is the mystery which we
understand to be paschal, the death and resurrecon
ofJesusChrist.

(27th May) and run unl Pentecost Sunday 2013. It is
an exhortaon from the Bishops of Australia tostart
afresh from Christ.

TheYearofGracehasbeenlikeaseed,beingwatered

Rome during the Jubilee year of 2000 and Pope John
Paul IIs challenge to the whole Church to
contemplatethefaceofChrist.

HowwemarkandcelebratetheYearofGracewillbe
up to us. The Bishops of Australia have not, and will
not, impose anything on our community of faith.
Rather they are simply giving us an opportunity to
start afresh from Christ, a space where we can
concentrate on renewing our relaonship with Jesus

Whileanumberofthingsarebeingconsideredaspart

certainly not the only things that we might consider.
To that end, I would welcome your input as to
possibilies that might be explored (although please
be prepared to become involved in making them
happen too!). If you, or a group within the Parish,
have some ideas, please dont hesitate to pass them
ontomeorGreg(preferablybyemailorinwring)so

The May Parish Luncheon will be last one unl

Acvies such as this are made easier if there are

many hands to help, and we are always on the look

day.

If this is something that might be interested in taking
