Fidelity Communications paves way to the future with DWDM

Future-proof solution from Nokia Siemens Networks will enable fast and efficient evolution Fidelity Communications, an independent operating company (IOC) based in the U.S. state of Missouri, has chosen Nokia Siemens Networks hiT7300-based Metro DWDM solution to meet the rapidly growing demand for bandwidth in its core network. With over 25,000 access lines, Fidelity offers wireline telephony, long distance services, high speed access via DSL and cable modems, and IPTV services to residential and business customers. Fidelity also uses its operational experience to help other IOCs and cable operators in deploying advanced services such as Voice over IP and IP Video. Fidelity will use the Nokia Siemens Networks platform to accommodate Internet subscriber growth, demand for higher-speed Internet packages and more high-definition content. Fidelity Communications is among the first IOCs to deploy Nokia Siemens Networks flexible, multi-service, multi-haul DWDM solution. It will allow Fidelity to meet the diverse needs, including operating a DWDM network with minimal operating expenditures, of the IOC and competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) market segments. We chose Nokia Siemens Networks solution for upgrading our optical backbone to 10G to ensure that we have the right platform to support us for the long term so that we can rapidly expand bandwidth in our core network, said Mike Davis, senior vice president at Fidelity Communications. Were confident we have the flexibility to quickly add the new routes and Ethernet-based services needed to support our rollout of triple play services. To ensure the best service experience, Fidelity Communications network design is fully ringsecured and has best-in-class reliability. Additionally, to accommodate the continued growth in data traffic and the carrier's overall footprint, the hiT7300 provides a network capacity that can be extended to 80x40G as needed in the future, with improved operating performance metrics. Nokia Siemens Networks is committed to IOCs and has, with the hiT7300, a DWDM platform that offers an attractive total cost of ownership for lower densities, plus simple upgrades and operation to help lower OPEX even further, said Dimitri Diliani, head of North America Sub-region, Nokia Siemens Networks. Small service providers are going to continue to see bandwidth increases from services like high-speed data and IPTV. They need to invest in a future-proof solution like the hiT7300, which combines the versatility of a metro platform with the scalability of high-performance DWDM transport.
