When the final coat of plaster was applied and skimmed this was allowed to set for a further 24 hours to a perfectly smooth and hardened finish. We then checked that all the pipes were in the correct place in both floor and walls. We were then ready to start with the wall tiles. The wall tiles were in place in about 6 hours due to the perfectly straight and level wall, even though were many difficult angles to cut and be fixed. The tiles were grouted before we went home that evening. This was due to the fact that we used a rapid setting floor tile fix. The floor tiles were of a special stone which reflected and sparkled when the lights hit them, and these were cut by using a diamond water cutter. Our next job was to install the new shower, which was a central opening right- angled shower cabinet. This would give us the space we required in a very small bathroom. After the new toilet, wash- hand basin and chrome towel wall radiator were fitted the shower/ toilet was completed. Extra items were added later to achieve more colour and depth to the finished project. Unlike many Surrey builders, we finished off by tidying up all our mess and leaving another happy customer! D escription and Photographs of How this Surrey builders Transformed an Old Fashioned Bathroom into a Beautiful Modern Shower Room! These photographs above show the transformation of a small bathroom with no natural light into a lighter, brighter modern shower room. We prepared the bathroom by disconnecting all of the water. The tiles and bathroom suite were the removed, followed by the old suspended ceiling. Note this was done after we had disconnected the electricity. We had agreed that we would put up a ceiling with a type of balk head containing recessed chrome ceiling lights. The reason why we had decided to provide a balk head was to give the small bathroom more height. We also measured out and placed the wiring for the mirror, which would now be placed over the new bathroom sink. The next stage was to remove the floorboards to gain access for the new copper piping we would supply for the new shower, wash hand basin and a pipe needed for the new central heating. With this done we channelled out the brickwork on the gable end that was needed to fit in the pipes and pump for the new shower. Please note that a window opening was cut out from the gable wall above where the old toilet was positioned. Following this, it was time to scratch coat the walls to form a good base coat for the plaster that would be applied within 24 hours.
