Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Call for interns


The International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) and the Pharmaceutical Research Institute at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (PRI-Albany) announce internship opportunity for IPSF members hosted by PRI-Albany during the summer (June-August) of 2013.

PRI-Albany is an independent, not-for-profit research and development institute dedicated to cutting-edge research, development and education. PRI is funded by the National Institutes of Health, USA Department of Defense, and various foundations. Additionally, PRI partner with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, academic and research centers throughout the world. Under the direction of the Chairman, Professor, Executive Vice President, and Vice Provost Shaker A. Mousa, Ph.D., MBA, FACC, FACB, formerly a fellow at DuPont and DuPont Merck Pharmaceuticals Co., PRI-Albany is engaged in drug discovery and drug development utilizing various technology platforms including biotechnology and nanotechnology in cardiovascular, oncology, ophthalmology, and hematology. Through its research capabilities, PRI-Albany endeavors to introduce novel non-invasive methods for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of various disorders. Through all of its components, PRI-Albany's primary objective is to enrich and advance pharmaceutical education by providing handson access to the full spectrum of drug discovery and development.

Description of the Internship:


The internship will provide training and hands-on experience in the role of nanotechnology in the early detection and treatment of cancer. The selected intern will write a brief proposal on the Nanotargeting of certain solid tumors for delivery of chemotherapy to those tumors as well as the imaging of tumor progression and regression. The fellow intern will be guided by experts in

nanotechnology and biotechnology to learn and practice how nanotechnology and biotechnology can help advance future discovery of diagnostic, effective, and safe Nano medicine.

PRI-Albany will provide the selected intern with the following: 1- Airline tickets from his/her home country to JFK Airport in New York City, USA 2- Transportation from JFK Airport to Albany, NY 3- One month accommodation during summer (June-August) of 2013 4- Mentoring by an expert team at PRI-Albany 5- Research supplies, state of the art equipment and access to the latest technology

Requirements:

1- Candidates are preferred to be in their final two year of their Pharmacy education 2- A GPA of at least 3 out 4 (very good to excellent grade average) 3- Laboratory skills will be a plus 4- Previous publication is a plus 5- Creative thinking skills 6- Team player

How to Apply:
Members interested in applying for this internship are required to meet all of the eligibility criteria mentioned above in addition to: 1- Filling out the enclosed internship application form

2- Providing an updated Curriculum Vitae including personal statement, grades, research experiences (if any) and publications (if any)
3- Submitting a 500-word proposal on the role of nanotechnology

in the early detection and treatment of cancer (please include brief background, rationale, significance, and approach). All entries must be the original idea of the author, which may be justified based on relevant literature. The proposal may include up to one additional page for references (Note: references are not counted towards the 500 word limit). 4- One page detailing your motivation for this internship 5- A letter of recommendation from one of your professors. 6- Membership confirmation letter from the IPSF contact person in your organization.

Selection Criteria:
1- There are two open spots for this call, one specified for US-

resident Pharmacy students and the other is open to pharmacy students from the rest of IPSF member countries.
2- Only entries submitted before the deadline will be considered.

3- PRI-Albany reserves the right to select the winner of the internship.


4- The winners of the internship will be contacted by IPSF by

March 1st, 2013. 5- The winners will be announced through all IPSF channels. 6- The winners will complete the internship in the summer (JuneAugust) of 2013.

7- A report summarizing the interns experience will have to be

submitted to IPSF internship coordinator ( internship@ipsf.org ) after the completion of the internship and no later than December 1st 2013.
