Holy Hour for Life

On January 22, 2013, our nation will sadly mark the 40th Anniversary of the tragic U.S. Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion on demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy. Since then, over 53,000,000 lives have been lost and many women and men have been left spiritually wounded. Jesus told us that some evil spirits can only be cast out by prayer and fasting, therefore we invite you to join us for a special Holy Hour for Life on January 24 at 7:00 pm in Church. St. Albert the Great will be hosting the Holy Hour for Life in solidarity with those who are on the Archdiocese of Chicagos Pilgrimage to the March for Life in Washington D.C. Come join us as we pray for an end to abortion.
SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND WILL BE FOR THE SOUND SYSTEM.
AS ALWAYS, YOUR SUPPORT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

2012 DONATIONS DONATION STATEMENTS 2012 donations statements to the church will be mailed out upon parishioners request. Please call the parish office at 708-423-0321 if you would like a statement of your contributions.
A VISIBLE GOD We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult public life at his baptism by John. Todays Gospel reading tells us of his first sign, providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Yet it is in coming to know Jesus that we come to know God. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

IRA Charitable Gifts are BACK IN BUSINESS

If youre age 70 or older, you may be able to take advantage of an important incentive for Charitable giving. Congress has re-authorized for 2012 and 2013 the provision that allows individuals to make gifts of up to $100,000 per year from their IRA accounts to one or more charities, without first incurring income tax on the withdrawal. Your gift may also count as your annual required minimum distribution from your IRA. This means that you can direct up to $100,000 a year from your IRA to St. Albert the Great with no federal income tax liability. The IRA Rollover may provide you with an excellent opportunity to make a gift during your lifetime from an asset that would be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate. Now, there are some details and restrictions: 1. You must be 70 or older when you make your gift, and the gift must be made from an IRA no other retirement plans (such as 401k, 403b or SEP accounts) qualify. 2. Your gift must come to us outright 3. Although the distribution will be free from income tax, it will not generate an income tax charitable deduction. 4. There are other details which well be happy to guide you through. Because Congress acted after the end of 2012 to pass this legislation, they have provided two ways you can make this type of gift and still have it count for 2012. Option One is to make an IRA transfer by January 31, 2013 and elect for it to count as a charitable gift for 2012. The administrator of your IRA plan will make the actual distribution to us. We can provide a sample letter of instruction that you can send to your plan provider (see below for details). Option Two applies if you took a distribution from your IRA in December 2012. In that case, you are allowed to send us a check in the amount of your December 2012 IRA distribution by January 31, 2013. Then elect on your tax return for the December 2012 distribution to count as an IRA rollover. Rich Goode, the Archdioceses Director of Planned Giving, can provide a sample letter of instruction that you can send to your IRA plan provider. For more information, please feel free to contact Rich at 312/534-7848.

REMEMBER, 2012 Charitable IRA distributions can be made until January 31, 2013

2013 Archdiocesan Annual Catholic Appeal Continues Love Never Fails! 1 Cor 13:8
Many of you have responded to the Annual Catholic Appeal mailing from Cardinal George. On behalf of those served by the ministries and services funded by the ACA, we thank you for your gifts. If you received the mailing and have not responded, please do so as soon as possible. In addition to providing for ministries and services throughout the Archdiocese, the Appeal also funds services that are of great help to other ministries here in our parish. This year, the theme of the Appeal is: Love Never Fails! In his first letter to the Corinthians Paul instructs that love is greatest virtue. God loves us always. He gives us everything. As we contemplate His gifts to us, we should also reflect on our gratitude for these gifts. Your financial support for the work our parish, of our Archdiocese and of the Church throughout the world is, in fact, one way to express this gratitude. Please give generously to the 2013 Annual Catholic Appeal.
