Technical Direction Summer Assistantship for Grad Production Department Joe Hamlin, Technical Director Chad Smith and Sam Craven-Griffiths, Assistant Mid May thru Mid August, full-time (start & end dates flexible) $500 per week

Position Overview: Center Theatre Groups Technical Direction Team is a part of the Production Department, charged with coordinating and executing production needs for all shows at CTGs three theatres. The Technical Direction Team focuses on construction, installation and strike of the sets. The Assistant will work with the three-person Technical Direction Team (TD plus two ATDs) at Center Theatre Groups theatres (Ahmanson, Mark Taper Forum and Kirk Douglas). Responsibilities include: Assist on budgeting, drafting, purchasing and other show related tasks. Work on various projects for improving the departments workflow such as stock drawings and paperwork. Attend production meetings, load-ins, technical rehearsals and performances as needed. Take notes and keep the Technical staff informed of important developments. Learning Objectives: The Assistant will learn the day to day responsibilities and tasks of a regional theatre Technical Director. This is a unique opportunity as CTG operates 3 very different theatres: The Ahmanson Theatre, a 2300 seat proscenium theatre mainly used to present tours, the Mark Taper Forum, a 700 seat thrust stage used for CTG-produced shows and the Kirk Douglas Theatre, a 300 non-union theatre. The Douglas is located in West Los Angeles while the other two union spaces are located in downtown Los Angeles. He/she will have exposure to IATSE crews, commercial scene shops and some of the premier designers working today. Qualifications: Applicant must be currently enrolled in a full-time graduate program pursuing a degree in Technical Direction or Production Management. He/she should be self-motivated, computer literate, smart and flexible with an interest in pursuing a career in not-for-profit theatre. Proficiency with AutoCAD and basic knowledge of scenic construction, rigging and budget management required. Applicant must have good communication skills and access to reliable transportation. Compensation: Internships are either compensated with a stipend or taken for course credit from a college or university. Please indicate your preference on the CTG Internship Application. Intern will have access to staff complimentary tickets to shows at the three theatres as they are available.
