Welcome to our second issue of Oasis Academy South Bank News. We will be regularly updating you on the developments and progress of Oasis Academy South Bank and some of the exciting ways which you can get involved. In this issue you will have the opportunity to hear from our Principal Designate, Carly Mitchell, and to find out more about what has been happening in the Oasis Academy South Bank family!

Carly Mitchell says...

I am delighted to welcome you to our second edition of the Oasis Academy South Bank News. We have had a very busy few months and are excited to be welcoming our new student cohort into Oasis Academy South Bank this September. In this issue you will find lots of interesting stories about the progress of the school: Our first Parent Steering Group, an introduction to our new Academy Councillors and information about our January Taster Day. This term, I have also had the opportunity to run 1-2-1 meetings for all our prospective families, allowing me to get to know the children who will be joining the OASB family this September. I have been able to find out about their hopes and dreams for the future and how we can best support our students in reaching them. Included in this newsletter, you will find a list of key dates and events planned for the next few months. I do hope you will be able to join us and thank you once again for your continued support as we move towards the schools opening. Should you have any questions or queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you. Carly Mitchell (Principal Designate)

Parent Steering Group- Friends of OASB

Our first Parent Steering Group was held on Wednesday 23rd January 2013 at The Oasis Centre. It was a great opportunity to get together and discuss what we thought a perfect week for an Oasis Academy South Bank Student would look like. We had great fun planning and arranging our model curriculums, discussing and evaluating the merits of different structures and formats. These conversations are going to continue, and all parents are warmly invited to join us at our next Steering Group (see key dates).

I think that getting a good education is one of the most important things for any child or young person, so that they can develop self-confidence and intellectual curiosity, and understand more about the world. I bring to the Academy a strong background in education policy, drive and passion for results, and a really strong personal commitment that every single one of our students can achieve their very best.

I hope to instil a passion for learning, interest in success, healthy competition and understanding of the working world/business/ politics for all students.

Taster Day 2: Oasis Academy South Bank, January 4th 2013

Following the success of our first Taster Day in October, some of our Founding Cohort joined us for a day in January to explore their hopes and dreams for the future. Amidst an array of exciting challenges and competitions along the South Bank, students were given a flight on The London Eye, and a 4D cinema adventure. Our students had a wonderful time and one said: I am now even more excited about starting in September as one of the first OASB students.
