Meeting Report
The group of participants of the Turkish partner arrived in Alexandroupolis on Saturday, 26th January 2013. The Turkish group consisted of five members: 1. Mr. Ali KSE (Provincial Deputy Manager) 2. Mr. Muhammet TRKMEN (Teacher/Project Coordinator) 3. Mr. Yunus Emre DAMLACI (Teacher / Provincial ICT Coordinator) 4. Mr. Ziya KAVRAZ (Teacher /TARGED Association Member) 5. Mrs. Meryem KAVRAZ. On Sunday, 27th January, the Turkish group and the Greek group visited the Environmental Education Centre (KPE) of Paranesti in the province of Drama. The Greek group consisted of: 1. Mr. Savvas MELISSOPOULOS, East Macedonia Thrace Regional Director of Education, 2. Mr. KOUROUMICHAKIS Apostolos, Senior Supervisor for Primary Education Scientific and Pedagogical Guidance of East Macedonia Thrace, 3. Ms. Eugenia THEODOSIADOU, Primary Education School Counselor of Xanthi, 4. Ms. Charitomeni GKIOUROGLOU, Teacher of English in Secondary Education, staff of EMTh-RDE, 5. Mr. Dimitrios VASILOUDIS, Primary Education Teacher, staff of EMTh-RDE, 6. Ms. Vana KALPIA, Primary Education Teacher, Intercultural Primary School of Sapes. Mr. Georgios KARIPIDIS, the director of KPE and his Environmental Team welcomed the guests and talked about the environmental education in Greece, the operation of Environmental Education Centers and their educational, training and lifelong learning programmes. Mr. Savvas MELISSOPOULOS also welcomed the Turkish partners and talked about the importance of innovations and quality in education. The Turkish partners praised the Environmental Education in Greece and proposed future partnerships with KPE Paranestiou. Later, everybody visited the Dam of Thisavrou and the power plant of the National Company of Electric Power at river Nestos. Participants also had the chance to visit the private settlement of KPE Paranestiou that provides free accommodation to pupils and

teachers. When they returned to Paranesti, the Mayor of Paranesti, Mr. Nikolaos KAGIAOGLOU, joined the company and they all had lunch sponsored by KPE Paranestiou. Finally, they all had coffee near the River Nestos. In the afternoon, the Greek and Turkish partners visited the town of Xanthi and they had a walk in the old town. On Monday, 28th January, the Turkish and Greek partners visited the 6th Primary School of Alexandroupolis. Mr. Kostas ASLANOGLOU welcomed everybody and guided visitors around the school. Then, visitors were guided to a presentations room, where teachers presented their schools and activities. More specifically, Ms. Chrisoula MPOUTZILOUDI presented the use of ICTs in the 1st grade and Ms. Maria TZIAMPAZIDOU presented the use of ICTs in the 1st and 2nd grades of their school. Finally, the pupils of the 6th grade, class 1, sang a song having an intercultural dimension: We build bridges, we demolish barriers. The teachers Ms. Panagiota PISTOLA and Ms. Elisavet TSORMPATZIDOU also participated in the event. Later, the partners visited the 3rd Lyceum (upper secondary education school) of Alexandroupolis. Ms. Foteini VAGI, the Headmistress, and school teachers welcomed visitors and guided them around the school premises. Then, everybody gathered in a presentations room and watched the following presentations: Ms. Chrysi DOULAKI, teacher of Chemistry, presented the Project Perfume, in the framework of the school subject Project, Ms. Sofia VALAVANI, teacher of English, presented a Project of the 3rd grade in the subject English and, Ms. Polymnia AGGENONIA, teacher of Greek Literature presented a Project in Modern Greek Literature of the 1st grade. At 12.30pm the partners were transferred to KOMOTINI, where they visited the 1st Minority High School of Komotini and discussed with school teachers. Finally, the partners visited the East Macedonia Thrace Regional Directory of Education and they were welcomed by the Regional Director, Mr. Savvas MELISSOPOULOS. All participants had the chance to discuss over administrative and educational issues of both countries. Partners also held a discussion about the projects website and set milestones for future activities. The Greek and Turkish partners kindly exchanged gifts. Everybody thanked one another for the

warm welcome, hospitality and cooperation. In the evening, Greek and Turkish partners had dinner together in Alexandroupolis. On Tuesday, 29th January, the Greek and Turkish partners visited the High-school and
Technical Vocational School of Special Education of Alexandroupolis . They were
welcomed by Mr. Paschalis KAVALIOTIS, Special Education School Consultant, Mr. Athanasios DIMARAS, Headmaster, school teachers and pupils. The hosts guided visitors to the greenhouse of the school and partners were informed about pupils engagement with the cultivation of plants and veggies and the schools opening to the local society. Moreover, partners were guided to all areas and classrooms of the school and were given presentshandicrafts made by the pupils. At 10.30 a.m., the partners visited the 3rd Gymnasium (high-school) of

Alexandroupolis, were greeted by the School Headmistress, Ms. Effrosyni PATAPATI, and
the Assisrtant Directors, Ms. O. CHAVROUZA and Ms. S. CHARITOUDI and were informed about the school operation. Then, guests were guided to the Natural Sciences Lab, where the biology teacher Ms. Th. PAPAMAUROUDI presented the lab and the pupils of the 1st grade, Rafail KOUNTOURAKIS and Katerina GEMOUSAKI conducted two biology experiments with the microscope. Also, the partners visited classrooms with ICT equipment (Interactive

Whiteboards, Video Projectors, Laptops) and were informed about the use of ICTs in the teaching process. Later, the visitors were guided to the school auditorium, where the teacher
of Greek Literature Ms. P. LAZAKI welcomed them in Turkish. There, everybody as well as teachers of other schools-Local Partners attended an event, with the following presentations: Presentation of the school life of the 3rd Gymnasium. The PowerPoint was created by Ms. F. KYRIAKOPOULOU, teacher of Informatics and was translated by Ms. M. MPOZIOU, teacher of English. The video editing was conducted by the pupil of the 3rd grade, Ioannis Vafeiadis. Presentation of the school premises, the school operation, the Curriculum, the subjects taught and the extracurricular activities. The PowerPoint was created by the pupils of the 3rd grade, Paraskeui KAMILA and Charis KARAVASILIS. The dance-club of the school danced folkdances from Thrace and Asia Minor. The teachers of Physical Education who prepared pupils are: Ms. O. CHABROUZA and Mr. D. DESLIS. The pupils who danced were: Anna VAMVAKEROU, Ioanna VAIRAMI, Konstantina DESLI, Marina KARATHANASI, Stella TSILIGGIANI, Despoina DELIMPEI, Stella KARAFILLIDOU, Eleni KOTA, Christina NTINA, Ioanna SIKLAFIDOU, Christina IFANTI, Anastasia GIOVANI and Stavroula PATSIORA.

The parents Union sponsored a buffet and participants exchanged views about educational systems and practices. In a moving atmosphere, the Turkish partners danced folkdances of their mother country. When the event was over, partners visited the Regional Training Centre (PEK) of

Alexandroupolis. There, Ms. Evanggelia SERAFEIM, Primary Education School Consultant,


made a presentation about the Innovative Activities and the Flexible Zone in Primary School. Ms. Theodora NALMPANTI, secondary education School Counselor on Informatics, made a presentation about Project-based Learning and ICTs in the Greek Education System. More specifically, she presented the history and status quo of the ICTs in Greek education and informed participants about the instruction and philosophy of the subject Project in the 1st and 2nd grades of upper high school. In the afternoon, partners were guided to the Ecclesiastical Museum of Alexandroupolis and the Ethnological Museum of Thrace. At the evening, Turkish and Greek partners had dinner together and the Turkish team departed on Wednesday, 30th January, at 2.15am to Trabzon.
