LESSON TITLE: Chapitre 5: Lesson 11

PLANNING CONTEXT
Unit Goal: To employ the grammatical and linguistic components of Chapter 5 of Bon Voyage (Au Caf et au restaurant), in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will be able to conjugate the verbs prendre (to take) and aller (to go) in the present tense (pages 168 and 162). They will properly use the verb aller to describe the near future (using aller + linfinitif) (page 165). Students will also use contractions and de, along with their corresponding definite articles to express direction and possession (p 166). They will correctly identify the vocabulary associated with the caf and restaurant (all presented in Chapter 5, a comprehensive list can be found on page 183 of the text). They will also learn how to read a French menu, how to appropriately act in a caf setting, learn how to properly execute a recipe for crepes, and take a chapter test at the end of the unit. MA Framework Standard(s): 1.1 Greet and respond to greetings 1.3 Ask and answer questions 1.4 Make and respond to requests 1.5 Exchange information and knowledge 2.1 Follow directions 5.2 Give examples of ways in which the target language differs from/is similar to English (grammar patterns) 5.9 Recognize grammatical categories such as tense, gender, and agreement in the target language and English (vocabulary words and their articles- ALLER) Student Learning Objective(s): Assessment What do you expect students to know or be able to do as a result of this lesson? Students will know how to make sentences in the future proche, and be able to fully participate in the partner activity of clairvoyance to apply their knowledge.

Interdisciplinary relevance: The work that is being done in this class that concerns the verb aller (both the contractions and the futur proche in todays example, the future proche) will require students to correlate their knowledge of whats going on in French to what they know in English (what is an English preposition, how do we conjugate verbs in English, etc). Students become more aware of their own language when they study another one. Lessons like these build student English Language skills, which will be particularly helpful in English classes and History classes. Also, dressing up will help students realize that learning can be somewhat goofy at times. Please pay attention because we have a lot of things to do today. I am going to give you some information about la glacerie. Then, we are going to review the future proche, and then do fortune-telling. Are there any questions? Magnificent, lets begin. Procedures to Accomplish Objectives: 1) Greet the students, and say the hook. Go over the agenda: a. Annonce des crpes b. Vrifiez les devoirs c. La glacerie/Mme Eaton d. Les clairvoyants e. Distribute the clairvoyants sheet to students. Do the first example with a strong student, to set the bar high for how students should respond.

b. Explain the negative formation of the future proche the nepas always goes around the first verb. c. Field any student questions. Students should put on their dress-up items now. d. Students may choose their own partners, and they should do all 16 questions. Tell students that they may fill out their billet partir, push in their chairs, and get a piece of candy on their way out. a. On their billet, students must write three things that they are going to do (in the future proche). When they finish, they must hand their billet in to me, and I will give them a piece of candy (they can choose). Instructional Strategies: Students will use what they know about aller and the futur proche to do all of the activities in class today and the past two homework assignments. Students will have the opportunity to invest in the experience, and they will likely remember their French teacher wearing a turban until the end of time. This learning experience is valuable for students to have, because they will realize that they can have a good time doing grammar. Learning Considerations (May include low-high technological options): Improving access to learning for all students Associated Accommodations(s)/Modification(s) See Modifications List See Modifications List
