Please note: If you do the work I ask you to do throughout the semester, you will NOT have the slightest difficulty completing the written assignment in time, and there will NOT be a conflict with other assignments and exam preparations. For this reason, the submission deadline is inflexible except in cases of illness documented by a doctors note. For late submission, there will be a penalty (see the Late submission section below).

B.Notes
i.e.yourwellstructured notesonthegame(aspertherelevantmemosIhavegiven you.) The notes are not marked and graded. However, if they are not submitted, incomplete or indicative of insufficient input, this will have a negative effect on the gradeoftheessay.

C.Wordlimit
One of the facts of academic life whether writing articles for publication, conference abstracts, research bids, or pretty much any other formal academic output is inflexible word limits. Many journals, funding bodies and conferences have online submission systems which will not allow submissions which go over the specified word limit by even one character. It is part of your research training to learn to work with these kinds of constraints. As a result, the final written assignment for this course will not be marked if it exceeds the maximum word limit. If you submit an assignment over the limit, it will be returned to you for editing, and you will face a late penalty (as per the specifications below) each day until it is resubmitted. No exceptions!Soplanyourassignmentscarefully, andeditmercilessly. Whatsincludedinthewordcount? All the text in your essay is counted, except references, footnotes and the notes on the game. Sectionheadingsand textualtables areincluded in the word count. I will count words by selecting everything up to the references, using Words word count tool, unticking the box that counts footnotes and endnotes, and looking at the words result.Youshoulddothesame,andshouldincludethewordcountintheassignment. Whatdoes+/20%mean? The eagleeyed among you will notice that there is a 20% word count margin allowed on all of your assignments. The reason for this margin is so that you dont have to concern yourself too much about things like tables and section headings. Do NOT plantowrite1200wordsfora1,000wordassignment.Plantowrite1,000words.Ifits slightlyunder,orslightlyover,dontworry.Thatsthepurposeofthemargin.

Part B: Dictionary Skills Error Correction In the following passage, correct the grammar and spelling mistakes you find. Do NOT correct punctuation, style or names.

In this essay I propose offering an analysis of The Strange and Wonderfull Life of Liz Tonne, the novel which won the Man Booker Price to Eric Hawse in 2010. It seems uncomprehensible that many critics still have difficulties to appreciate Hawses exceptional talent. Thus Tom Jonson in his recent monograf on the contemporary novel forgets mentioning Hawse all together (instead he wastes at least two dozens of pages on unrelevant novelists). Only Matt Franck, from whose clearly-sighted analyses literary criticsm has received many stimuluses, points Hawses genie out and explains his readers why Hawse matters.

In this connection, decoding, reporting and criticizing what others have written is a central skill. In preparation for the viva I am asking you to write an excerpt of the article you have beenassigned.Wewillpracticethisinclass, andamemoonWritinganexcerptwill be posted on Ilias.
