MAKING TEACHING FUN

Aims Listening and speaking practice; vocabulary practice (time) Level Lower-Intermediate to Intermediate Time Approximately 25 – 30 minutes (including extension activity)

NOTES: (1) Have your students sit in pairs. Lead in with the question of what time your students usually wake up on Saturdays. (3 minutes) (2) Distribute the handouts, and ask your students to turn their papers over and listen carefully while you dictate 12 short conversations (below). Rather than just dictating the times as simple numbers (e.g. “six forty-five), read them as you may have recently taught your students (e.g. “a quarter to seven”). Your students should write only the verbs they hear (e.g. “wake up”) and then immediately turn their papers over to draw each of the dictated times in the pictures (e.g. “6:45”).

(10 – 15 minutes) EXTENSION ACTIVITY Have your students use the verb phrases on the back of their handouts to interview a classmate about their daily habits. (10 minutes)
