February, March and April are busy month for academic institution around the country. With the recent SPM and STPM result in March, UMK was not left out in promoting its program and brand name to the many eager young faces wanting to know more about

tertiary education. From government MOHE initiated Jom Masuk U, the MARA education carnival, Study Malaysia, not including the many other small education fair initiated by schools matriculation centers, and other private and government agency, Malaysia is now a buzz

Bio-Entrepreneurial Talk
On the 23rd of March, FIAT successfully held a Bio-Entrepreneurial talk entitled A sustainable Poultry Industry. Two successful business man in the poultry industry, Dr. Mohamad Zainol Ahmad Haja and Mr. Firdaus Mat Saad gave interesting feedback on their experience. The recently concluded research methodology workshop throughout March aims to prepare FYP 1 students to start research, and to help FYP 2 students to write up their studies. The series of talks and discussion covering introduction to research, doing research and

writing up research was conducted throughout March. FYP 1 student will now be well prepared to present their respective research proposal in early April. Meanwhile, FYP 2 student are currently analyzing their data and writing up a thesis draft that must be submitted

by the end of April to help them polish up their work. This will be followed by a research pr esen tation near the end of the 2nd semester. We would like to wish all FYP students and their supervisors all the best less and killing two birds with one stone requires clever, careful priority oriented planning. Branding agenda should not jeopardized quality education. Number 1 on the list must be availability of complete basic education facilities, followed by conducive learning environment , conducive teaching and working environment. These are the core priorities to promote and maintain the universitys standing. The same goes for FIAT,

A group of 47 students of SBH2 programme led by Dr. Md. Ruhul Amin and En Mohd Hafiz Jamaludin on 28th of March, made a visit to National Institute of Veterinary Biodiversity (IBVK) and they were given an impassioned exposure to various breeding technology. The IBVK is a central institute for domestic ruminant animal biotechnology located in Jerantut, Pahang, sits on 161.4 hactares of land. IBVK purviews breeding bull selection, semen production from bull and buck, computer assisted evaluation of semen, cryopreservation of semen, estrus

synchronization by CIDR, MOET, IVF, embryo spliting, karyotyping, pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasound technique, insemination of cows and does, intra-uterine insemination in does and many other allied reproductive technologies. The institute is responsible for importing semen from abroad. Currently the institute is importing Charolais (from Canada and USA), Holstein Friesian and Brahman semen (from USA). lems with an interesting title Before I quit!. On the 19th of March, Dr Suhaimi Othaman talked on planning the for the future. Mastering the art of body language given by Mr. Mohd Mahmud @ Mansur on the 20th of March was very interesting and can be very useful in ones everyday communication at home, at work,

and at play. With university life being very hectic, what better way to end March with a talk on managing stress by Prof. S. M. Rezaul Karim. This goes to show, FIAT lecturers can very really versatile, and know more than just what is taught in lectures. Kudos to everyone who were involved in such activities!

We would like to congratulate Mrs. Nurhidayah Hamzah and here husband for their beautiful baby girl who was born on the 28th of March at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM), Kubang Kerian. Although the baby was premature, both baby and mother are in the good of health. Everyone at FIAT pray for their quick recovery.
