    Columbia 400 Flight Director

    The Eaglesoft Development Group Columbia 400 Avidyne PFD includes features from the newest 6.0 Software, and a Flight Director to assist pilots in proper precision flight. The following features are available. 1. Flight Director Flying Wedge aircraft reference display. 2. Indicated Airspeed Tape. 3. Command Bars. Magenta or Green according to AP Mode Selection. 4. Vertical Speed Indicator. 5. Enhanced Autopilot Annunciations across the top of PFD.

    Columbia 400 Flight Director

    The Flight Director is a display of the flight profile as commanded by the STEC 55X Autopilot. In the Columbia 400 installation, a remote switch on the instrument panel allows the control of the Autopilot Modes between OFF, AP, AP & FD, or FD while Command Bars are not yet activated. FD Mode is a Manual Mode in which the Pilot is expected to manually fly toward the Green Command Bars and the AP is Disconnected. AP & FD Mode is an Autopilot Mode in which the Autopilot will fly toward the Magenta Command Bars and the AP is Connected. The Command Bars are limited to +- 30 in Roll and +- 15 in Pitch.

    COLUMBIA 400 AVIDYNE REMOTE PANEL SWITCHES

    The Autopilot Master Switch controls the Autopilot Mode Type between OFF, AP, AP & FD, or FD.

    The Autopilot HDG or NAV selection and ALT/VS selection must be made manually to Activate and Display the Command Bars.

    COLUMBIA 400 AVIDYNE FD ACTIVE MODE

    In Flight Director Mode, FD will be displayed in the Autopilot Annunciation Field, the Command Bars will be visible and Green.

    The Autopilot is made Active by selecting HDG or NAV/GPSS [Roll Command] and ALT\VS [Pitch Command]. Pilot must now select [FD] position to activate the Flight Director Command Bars, which are displayed in Green. The pilot is now expected to fly to the Green Command Bars and is fully responsible for directional control.

    COLUMBIA 400 AVIDYNE AP&FD ACTIVE MODES

    In Autopilot Mode, AP will be displayed in the Autopilot Annunciation Field, the Command Bars will be visible and Magenta.

    The Autopilot is made Active by selecting HDG or NAV/GPSS [Roll Command] and ALT\VS [Pitch Command], AP will light, and the Flight Director Command Bars are now displayed in Magenta. The Autopilot will now fly to the Magenta Command Bars. Pilot must now select [AP/FD] position to activate the Flight Director Command Bars, which are displayed in Magenta. The Autopilot will now fly to the Magenta Command Bars.

    NOTE: STEC 55X Disconnect Button is located on the top of the Yoke. It is visible any time an Autopilot Popup Panel is used.
