Axis Bank Ltd (Axis Bank) was promoted in 1994 by the erstwhile UTI (Now the Administrator of the Specified Undertaking of the Unit Trust of India). The Bank changed its name with effect from July 30, 2007, from UTI Bank Ltd. to Axis Bank Ltd.

Business Operations
Axis Bank operates in the segments of corporate banking, retail banking, treasury, business banking, capital markets and international banking. The Bank has developed rating tools, which are tailored to specific market segments. The Banks retail deposit products include customised products for various segments such as the salaried class, women, senior citizens, defence personnel, and other target segments. Its retail loan products include home loans, personal loans, car loans, consumer durable loans and educational loans.

Performance
In FY07, the advances and deposits of the Bank registered a growth of 65% and 47% respectively. Of this, non-retail loans, comprising large corporates, mid corporates, SME, and agriculture lending, increased by 77%, while retail loans increased by 38%. As on March 31, 2007, the total debit card base of the Bank stood at 6 mn. In the retail banking sector, savings bank deposits registered a y-o-y growth of over 50%. Network
In FY07, Axis Bank added 153 new branches to its network taking the number of branches to 508 as against 355 branches at the end of the previous year. The Bank also opened three Priority Banking branches in Pune, Mumbai and Kolkata. In FY07, 450 new ATMs were also installed taking the Banks ATM network to 2,341 at the end of the financial year. During the year, the Bank also opened three new overseas offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. In April 2007, the Bank opened a branch at the Dubai International Finance Centre. The geographical reach of the Bank in India extends to 29 states and 3 union territories, covering 369 centres.

New Products & Initiatives

In FY07, Axis Bank launched project Sampark as a cross-selling initiative. During the year, the Bank launched the Annuity Card, the Meal Card and the Gift Card. The Annuity Card is a co-branded pre-paid card in association with LIC for disbursing the annuity where as the Meal Card is an electronic variant of meal vouchers. On the fee-based income side, the Bank commenced Life Insurance business, Online Trading service and Wealth Advisory Services for high net worth customers.
