D) READING FROM BAHAWULPUR TO YORKSHIRE Read the following text.

Atta Mohamded Chaundry and his wife Safia Tasneem come from the Bahawulpur region of Pakistan, where their families are fruit farmers. They now live in Yorkshire in the North of England with their three daughters and two sons. Both Atta and Safia work in a local textile mill. Although the five children were all born in England, their English is not very good. This is probably because the whole family spent two years in Pakistan. They had to speak Punjabi and Urdu there. Safia speaks very good English and she helps other Pakistani and Indian women in her town who cannot speak so well. The Chaundry family is Muslim. This means that they eat special food and wear special clothes. The children go to the Mosque every day for two hours after school. They read the Koran and prey to God. The boys have to wear small hats and the girls have to cover their arms and head. The family enjoys life in Britain and they have many friends, but the children often think about their future. Nahda, the eldest daughter, who is twelve, says: My mum got married when she was a teenager, but I want to stay free as a bird, I would like to go to college later.
