Marys English Department Grades 9-12 Course Guidelines On-Line Learning Guides:

Visit the courses Haiku page at least once a day. Syllabi, course policies, resources, learning aids, digital forms of handouts, assignments, etc. are regularly posted. Check school email daily. Occasionally, there will be changes to the syllabus, assignments, and announcements. Please refer to the syllabus about assignments, due dates, tests, etc. If you have a personal question/concern, you may email me at my school address. I will check emails until 7 PM each evening. In an emergency, you may call until 9 PM time each evening. Access to a computer and the Internet will be a daily necessity and poor service or faulty equipment will NEVER be an excuse for not having assignments or for not coming to class completely prepared to participate. It will be imperative that students work ahead and allow for technical difficulties. Computers in the library are available from 7:15 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday and can be used to complete all classroom assignments. If you are having technical difficulties that will affect the completion of an assignment, please email me an attachment of your assignment using a Word document. If you are unable to use the Internet, call me. Together we will work out a reasonable plan for the assignments completion. Students may also use a flash drive in order to print on the schools computers in order to get an assignment in on time. In e-communications, please understand the use of language appropriate for an assignment. For formal assignments, your best composition, use of diction, spelling, grammar, and punctuation are expected. For informal assignments, you will need to clarify with your teacher for expectations about abbreviations, etc. in your writing. Computer use in the classroom is strictly limited to classroom related sites: English Haiku page, word processing, etc. Using a computer for anything else (such as social media or streaming) will result in the students losing the right to use her device in class.

Class Expectations:

A late essay, makeup test, or project will be penalized ten percent for each day that it is late. You will have the number of days absent to make up a test. You will be penalized ten percent for each day you are late with your established makeup date.

In the case of an absence, students should continue to follow their syllabus and be prepared for class upon their return. If the absence truly removes the student from her ability to return to school prepared, it is critical to communicate with the teacher before returning to school. In the case of an extended absence, please see the handbook policy and be in close communication with the school/teachers. If you check in late on a test day you are still expected to take the test on that day. The same goes for days you expect to check out early; you must see me if a test/quiz is scheduled. If the test has been given before you check in, then you must stay that afternoon to take the make-up test. Failure to complete the test that day will result in a ten percent per day reduction. This also applies to material due on a day when you check out or in and miss class failure to turn in the required work will result in a ten percent per day reduction
