UMW donates three Toyota
Job opportunities for 1,500 women

AMASSURANCE recently
launched a recruitment campaign
called “What Women Want” for
women who want to become
insurance agents.
Under the campaign, 1,500
selected Malaysian women will
be transformed into financially
savvy businesswomen through
AmAssurance’s training facility,
AmAcademy.
The campaign, a corporate
social responsibility (CSR) initiative
by AmAssurance, was launched
by Women, Family and Commu-
nity Development Deputy Minister
Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun.
“Women have progressed in
modern times and at AmAssur-
ance, we recognise their contri-
butions towards nation-building
and the country’s economy,” said
AmAssurance chief executive
officer Ng Lian Lu.
“We believe the ‘What Women
Want’ campaign is another ap-
proach where companies through
CSR, can assist a larger segment
of society by offering them, in
this case, women, long term and
sustainable solutions through
training and career opportunities
in insurance,” he said.
Based on the statistics provided
by the Malaysian Employers Fed-
eration, the unemployment figure
is expected to rise to 200,000 this
year, compared with Malaysia’s
previous economic slow down in
1998 with 85,000 job lay-offs.
The bulk of these retrenched
employees are female workers
despite representing 35% of Ma-
laysia’s total workforce.
AmAssurance’s recruitment of
the 1,500 women for the campaign
will be done through its life insur-
ance arm – AmLife Insurance Bhd
– and will be conducted via road-
shows from July to November.
The road shows will be held in
Kuching on July 4, Johor Baru on
Aug 1, George Town on Aug 29,
Petaling Jaya on Oct 31 and Kota
Baru on Nov 7.
