Pharmaceutical business, Textile business, Spinning mils, Cosmetics, Food products, Trilateral

SQUARE, today symbolizes a name – a state of mind. Fifty years of hard work, passion and

Pharmaceuticals Ltd, the flagship company of SQUARE Group, was established. Today SQUARE
Group has burgeoned into one of the top-line esteemed conglomerates in Bangladesh.

SQUARE Toiletries Ltd. started its journey in 1988 with a single product as a separate division of
SQUARE Pharmaceuticals. In 1994, SQUARE Toiletries Ltd. became a Private Ltd. Company.
At present, STL is the country's leading manufacturer of international quality cosmetics and
toiletries with 18 brands and more than 49 products covering a wide range of categories like health
& hygiene, skin care, hair care, oral care, baby care, fabric care, utensil care and male grooming.
STL’s core business is driven by care, illustrated by recent instances in its heritage such as:

various levels and also advises how the corporation might take advantage of the pandemic's
potential to perform new CSR operations. Square Group is a well-known and major organization

It has a large CSR to cover any potential opportunities. In this research, we'll look at how Square

overall brand image.

As a result, we'll focus on those CSR initiatives that have already taken place. This company did
not confine its activity by initiating the reality show only, but took more vital project to introduce

Values & Principles

Consumer, employee, and societal well-being are the three foundation pillars of Square Toiletries
Ltd.’s values and principles. Square Toiletries Ltd. thinks it is their responsibility to contribute to
the betterment of society. Despite being a commercial company, STL tries to be even more
focused on the fulfillment of its duties to society, and hence has a strong feeling of responsibility
toward its customers, employees, and society as a whole. These basic principles and principals are
represented in every activity of STL, from day-to-day business operations to quality policy.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a management concept in which businesses incorporate
social and environmental issues into their operations and interactions with stakeholders. CSR is
commonly defined as the process through which a firm achieves a balance of economic,
environmental, and social imperatives ("Triple-Bottom-Line-Attainment") while also meeting the
needs of shareholders and stakeholders. It's crucial to distinguish between CSR, which can be a
strategic corporate management idea, and charity, sponsorships, or philanthropy in this context.
Even if the latter can make a significant contribution to poverty reduction and directly improve a
company's reputation and brand, the concept of CSR clearly goes beyond that.
Square's activities extend far beyond the realm of business, with CSR projects such as
"Aparajita," educational facilities for employees' children, the establishment of the IT training
and consultancy firm "Dishari," medical campaigns for impoverished patients, and lending
facilities for its staff. Support for social causes, environmental protection, and public health;
SQUARE sponsors the Meril-Prothom Alo festival; SQUARE assists many NGO's in their
efforts to provide healthcare to the country's underserved population; SQUARE sponsors
programs to raise awareness about the need for healthcare; SQUARE sponsors major sporting
events in the country; and so on.
8
CSR Communication
CSR communication is a diverse field that encompasses both strategic and operational
considerations. CSR communication, according to K. Podnar (2008), is "a process of anticipating
stakeholder expectations, articulating CSR policy, and managing various organization
communication tools designed to provide true and transparent information about a company's or
brand's integration of business operations, social and environmental concerns, and interactions
with stakeholders" (Podnar 2008, 75).
Regular CSR communication brings company certain advantages:
- Transparency — Ensure business transparency by raising knowledge of CSR initiatives.
- Supervision of CSR Activities — enables a comparison of a company's publicly known CSR
liabilities with reality, highlighting flaws in the CSR corporate strategy.
- Stakeholder involvement – Strengthens the status of stakeholders and their participation in
company decisions.
- Cross-sector collaboration – Encourages cross-sector collaboration between enterprises,
government agencies, and non-profits.
Communication concerning the customer should present how a company manages to integrate
corporate responsibility into everyday practice. Communication with customers may be directed
to:

- The manufacture of safe and high-quality goods and services

- Ensuring constant customer satisfaction
- Information dissemination outside of the primary business enterprise
- Reasonable pricing
- Adhesion to marketing and advertising ethics, as well as consumer rights
- Excellent after-sales service.
CSR Project
SQUARE Toiletries Ltd. took the effort to teach youngsters about hand hygiene by implementing
a "Hand Antiseptic Program" at several schools. Sepnil was also put by SQUARE Toiletries
Ltd. Hand Sanitizer, Hand Soap, and Sepnil Hand Wash are available for free in the washrooms
of roughly 23 schools in Dhaka.
Problem Statement
The Covid-19 pandemic has been a calamity in our lives. We've had so many challenges in our
lives that we barely made it through the third wave of the virus. Schoolchildren didn't know how
to wash their hands and prevent Covid-19 in March 2020, when the Educational Institutions were
put on lockdown, and subsequently in September 2021, when all of the Educational Institutions
were reopened after a long absence. Washing their hands is one of the most effective ways to get
rid of the Corona Virus. All of the students' teachers were teaching them how to properly wash

9
their hands. SQUARE Toiletries Ltd. responded by launching the "Hand Sanitization Program"
to raise public awareness about health and hygiene issues. This program is helping children to
make a habit of washing their hands when they are exposed to dirt and germs.
STL’s project is being helping a lot of children’s and protects them from the virus spread out.
This CSR Project is not only targeting the children but also targeting the parents and general
peoples who are not well conscious about the washing hands with sanitizers and hand washes.
STL’s focusing both the parties to create mass awareness.
During school closures, STLs collaborated with partners to offer a variety of options for learning
continuity in order to reach as many students as possible.
Remote learning, on the other hand, cannot entirely compensate for the lack of face-to-face
instruction. If remote learning is to be successful, it must have built-in support from teachers,
classmates, parents, or community members so that students can seek assistance when needed.
Learning can become relatively passive without this connection, making it difficult for students
to stay engaged, especially if they don't understand a concept. Face-to-face connection is crucial
in the early years for the development of speaking and listening skills, as well as social and fine
motor skills, which are the foundations for future success.

During the pandemics and found that learning time decreased, and participation levels were low
during school closures. Children who were already facing barriers to participation in learning were
the most likely not to participate in any remote learning. Reasons included lack of technology and,
for ethnic minorities, a lack of information due to language barriers.

STLs were sufficiently training instructors to adjust to supporting both distant and face-to-face
learning, ensuring that the project will benefit our country.

Covid-19 is going to be a part of our lives. We must accept this virus and learn to live with it. But
that doesn't imply we're helpless in the face of the virus. It will continue to exist as long as it grows
stronger and more mutated. We must take actions and do something better to defeat the virus and
live a normal life if we want to abolish its presence. Our future generations are looking for a
normal life, and we need to give them hope.

10
Impact
Many low- and middle-income persons do not have hand wash, soap, hand sanitizer, or water to
wash or clean with, and hand washing at critical occasions is not widely practiced. Nearly three
out of every four people in least-developed nations have no access to soap and water at home.
This increases the likelihood of infections and diseases, such as coronavirus, spreading.
In the school and washroom, there is a lack of cleanliness and hygiene. Schools in rural areas are
lagging behind in this regard. The Covid-19 has an impact on both urban and rural schoolchildren.

Handwashing using hand sanitizer and soap and water on a regular basis is one of the most
effective strategies to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and is the first line of defense
against COVID-19. Coronaviruses are transferred through droplets from a person coughing or
sneezing, as well as contaminated surfaces, much like a cold.
To avoid spreading it — and catching it – good hygiene is essential.

Controlling the pandemic requires comprehensive hand washing on a regular basis and at key
moments, in addition to other important behaviors including physical separation.
The diagram below depicts five critical measures that should be taken to limit the danger of
COVID transmission.

11
Goals and Benefits
This project aims to teach children the importance of washing their hands after coming into
contact with dirt or pathogens. STL collaborates with the government and other organizations to
protect children's rights, particularly those of the most vulnerable. Its goal is to provide safe
sanitation and hygiene services to children and adolescents in times of crisis, when they are most
vulnerable and at risk.
The cross-sectorial interventions are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. SQUARE
group supports scaling up safe sanitation and hygiene for communities and health, education and
nutrition institutions in urban and rural areas. STL’s works across the sanitation management chain
to help reduce the unsafe discharge of wastes into the environment and to ensure inclusive,
sustainable and equitable access. In terms of hygiene, focuses on influencing hygiene behavior
change in the three key areas of hand washing with soap, safe water handling, menstrual hygiene
management.
SLT’s are providing free Sepnil Hand Sanitizer & Sepnil Hand Wash and Hand Soap in the Urban
and Rural area’s schools to promote the good hygiene. STL’s are experts in working with
governments, communities and partners to improve WASH facilities and promote hygiene
behavior changes that mean people get the most out of improvements.
In response to the potential of coronavirus, STLs are stepping up their efforts to encourage
cleanliness, including better hand washing and sanitizing. STLs are putting hand washing stations
in places where children are most likely to need them, making it easier for them to keep their
hands clean and safe. This is the time for all of us to work together to alter hygiene habits on a
large basis.

Potential Key Benefits

In Bangladesh, the Sepnil Hand Wash and Soap hand washing apparatus is being piloted and
tested in both urban and rural schools. This device may autonomously monitor the operation of
the hand-washing facilities, as well as the hand-washing practices of students/children, and offer
evidence for additional, targeted behavior-change initiatives. To limit the risk of contamination
and illness spread, STLs have also funded the construction of a foot-operated hand washing
station in health facilities. SQUARE Group has been collaborating with the Health and City
Authority on medical waste management training and the development of a medical waste
management model for health care workers. Project Resources, Budget Plan and Time Schedule

Square Toiletries Ltd. projects needs resources and requirements to ensure the “Hand Sanitization
Program” and making a budget Plan. STL’s are planning to donate free Sepnil Hand Sanitizer,
Sepnil Hand Wash and Hand Soap. STL’s providing technical and financial support, including
clean water supply collaborated with Dhaka WASA. Water Tanks are also available in every
school point where the program is being initiated. These actions benefited 80,000+ people.

12
To run the program, SLTs require more labor or volunteers. STL's "Hand Sanitizer Program" will
enlist the help of over 1000 volunteers. STL plans to install 1,000 new hand washing stations in
schools and public areas. STL's gave 1 million Meril soap bars, Sepnil hand wash, and hand
sanitizers to all urban and rural schools, which were then delivered to low-income residents in
urban and rural areas to encourage them to wash their hands. Latrines and bathing facilities were
also encouraged to be disinfected on a regular basis. STL provided hygiene kits, garbage bins,
hand washing stations, and the functionality of water sources and toilets to health institutions.
The SQUARE group, which is assisting Bangladesh, has prepared a preliminary draft of the
Hand Hygiene for All Roadmap to ensure that everyone has clean hands.
Conclusion
SQUARE Toiletries Ltd. has built a name on Corporate Social Responsibilities. Their duties for
health and safety precautions, as well as environmental conservation, have helped to establish a
positive image of their organization among the general public. The report also explains how they
have been carrying out these CSR efforts and what steps they have taken to make them viable.
Their efforts to engage in CSR activities might be characterized as the ultimate benefit to the
community. As they continued their adventure in the business world, they have always worked
hard for the well-being of their community and have performed according to their renowned
quote, "Being good by doing well." We may state that Bangladesh's SQUARE Group is playing
a critical role in the country's economic development, social development, job creation, disaster
relief, and a variety of other beneficial actions.
