Introduction:
Bangladesh is a developing country with huge social, economical and environmental problems.
However, this is evident that the increasing practice of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It
is contributing to improving in the lives of its citizens. As defined by the World Business
Council for Sustainable Development, “Corporate Social Responsibility is the continuing
commitment by business to behave ethically and contribute to economic development while
improving the quality of life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local
community and society at large”.

Examples of Corporate Social Responsibility:
CSR involves a broad range of activities. Industries can implement this management concept into
their ongoing operation in several ways. Some of the most common examples of CSR include:
Implementing policies that benefit the environment (reducing carbon footprints, using
recyclable materials etc.)
Making socially and environmentally conscious investments
Improving labor policies and embracing fair trade
Participating in charitable endeavors
Getting involved in volunteer work
In our country, we have different types of industrial sectors which are practicing the Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR). Now I am describing CSR practices in our Bangladesh by different
industrial sectors in shortly.
Vision:
They view business as a means to the material and social wellbeing of the
investors, employees and the society at large, leading to accretion of wealth through
financial and moral gains as a part of the human civilization.
Objective:
To conduct transparent business operation based on market mechanism
within the legal & social framework with aims to attain the mission reflected by their
vision.

Square pharmaceuticals limited scale-up CSR activities to consider the interests of their external
and internal stakeholders like customers, employees, vendors, shareholders, society, government
etc. and ecological & ethical considerations in all aspects of operations. Square is one of the
pioneer signatories of United Nations Global Compact (UMGC) in Bangladesh.

Solar home system, Mini grid, Bio gas plant, Hydro power plant, PET
(Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottle reprocessing plant, LED bulb production,

Responsible, ethical, and environment friendly seafood souring is of foremost importance
to them and they systematically ensure fair prices for the shrimp farmers.
They are continuously innovated their aquaculture techniques to achieve the highest
industry standards.
BD seafood engages with all stakeholders to continuously improve the living standards of
fishermen and encouraging environment friendly harvesting techniques.
They have world-class healthy working conditions and day-care facilities for the children
of working mothers with zero tolerate policy towards child labor.
It also offers emergency medical treatment with 24-hours doctors (both male and female)
on-site along with free medicine.
80% of their employees are women; they continuously strive for the welfare and benefits
of females and under privileged sectors of the society through effective employment
generation.
Upcoming and Long-term initiatives of this industry:
Protection of Marine Life Diversity, Green Movement for the Sustainability of
Ecosystems.
Protection of water bodies like canals and other island aquatic reservoirs of
Bangladesh.
Long-term beneficial schemes for the families of farmers and fishermen.

proper donations to orphan children, financially supporting local religious and educational
foundations, distributing medical financial assistance to needy patients and arranging medical
health camps etc.

activity that brings simultaneous economic, social and environmental benefits; ensuring the best
minimum levels of performance in areas such as health & safety, the environment and equal
opportunities. Moreover, PCIL is committed to operating in a socially responsible manner,
supporting a number of local communities and social or charitable causes as well as running its
operation in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Conclusion:
The concept of CSR is used as shorthand for businesses’ contribution to sustainable
development. They include labor standards, human rights, education, health, child labor, poverty
reduction, conflict, and environmental impacts. That is why every industry should maintain the
CSR activities for our country, society, and environment.
