Minutes for Kickoff Sept 19, 2013

Kickoff was held at the Pasquotank Ext office. Traci Jones, Dale Smith and Kathryn Scott conducted the meeting. Team Captains had refreshments/light dinner provided by Bryons Hot Dog Stand, Chick-fil-A, Biggs, Onley Distributors and Panera Breads. We are truly thankful for their support. Theme: Traci introduced the theme for 2014--Carnival for a Cure. Teams are encouraged to decorate their campsites and have activities that are family friendly, and focus on the Carnival Theme. The goal is to attract community members to come to Relay and enjoy the Carnival atmosphere and games. Committee: Relay Committee Members present were introduced. The following positions are open on the committee: Missions, Advocacy, Publicity, Logistics and Team Recognition. If you are interested in being on the committee, contact Kathryn at relayrivercity@gmail.com . Wrap of Relay 2013: Kim Meads2013s Chair-- handed out awards and certificates for last years teams. Relay raised over $86,000 last year, with over 500 participants and 130 survivors. Teams who reached a Fundraising award level were also given yard stakes to display at their fundraising events. Upcoming Meetings and Events: Team Captains meetings will be the 3rd Thursday of each month. Committee meetings are the 1st Monday of each month. Community Wide Yard Sale will be held at COA on Oct 12th. Spaces are free to Relay teams and $5 for the general public. Contact Barbara Roberts to reserve your space. 252-455-1600 Bark For Life will be held Oct 26th at Meyler Farms. Registration is $10 pre-event, and $25 onsite. Register at www.relayforlife.org/Pasquotankcamdennc click the orange Join button and join the Bark For Life team.

Registration: Kathryn explained the registration process, and offered to help anyone having problems with the website. She can be contacted at relayrivercity@gmail.com. Many team captains were not able to get the Early Bird promo code to work for their registration. They are able to pay their $5 registration fees by check and they will be processed correctly. Anyone who registers and pays their fees before Sept 29th is eligible for the Early Bird Promotion. Simply enter relay in the Promotion Code box when you register, and your fees will be $5!

Team Captain Kits will not be available until after Oct 9th. They will either be e-mailed to the Team Captains, or hard copies will be mailed to their home address. If Team Captains need accounting sheets prior to receiving their kits, they can contact Amy Futrell.

Guest Speaker: The guest speaker was Kandi Deitemeyer. Her inspirational message about her daughters cancer diagnosis and treatment pointed out the necessity for continuing to raise money and awareness about this disease. The next Team Captains meeting will be Thursday, Oct 17th at 5:30 PM.
