Executive Summary
Law IV Musical has been an annual tradition, stemming back from the 1980s, for the graduating class of NUS Law students to put up a Law IV Concert. The purpose of this customary performance is two-pronged firstly to raise funds for charity, and secondly to showcase the hidden artistic and musical talents of NUS Law students. Therefore, this year, without exception, we staged an original 90minute play/revue entitled Faces of Life. The script, music and dance numbers were all written, composed, and choreographed by the members of the Class of 2013 themselves.

There were two performances of Faces of Life on the 1st and 2nd of February 2013 respectively. 280 tickets out of 300 tickets were sold for the first performance on the 1st February, and 284 tickets were sold for the second showing on 2nd February. This represents 94% of the total sales capacity.

In terms of staging, Faces of Life deviated from the conventional approach that has been used for previous Law IV Concerts. Instead of adopting a completely fictional storyline, Faces of Life was inspired loosely by the actual experiences of members of the Class of 2013, and it chronicles the highs and lows that NUS Law students undergo during their time in university. The play is nostalgic in nature, and is intended to make the audience reminisce about how their personal experiences in life have shaped them as individuals.

Publicity-wise, Faces of Life received much coverage. Not only was the concert featured on NUS Law Clubs Justified website (www.justified.nuslawclub.com), a website frequented by the NUS Law students for the latest updates in the legal community and beyond, it will also be featured in the February issue of LawLink, an NUS Law alumni magazine. Furthermore, a Facebook Page was set up to promote the concert, promotional electronic direct mailers (EDMs) were sent out regularly to the NUS Law community, and 40 posters were placed in strategic

locations around the NUS Bukit Timah Campus. Lastly, Faces of Life had email blasts to various law firms, SMU School of Law, members of the Law society, members of the Debates Association (Singapore). Particularly, we also made sales to 40 members of the public, who were from the Clementi Community Centre.

At this point in time, the proceeds from ticket sales, the donations, as well as auxiliary sales of Faces of Life-related merchandise, have cumulated in a profit of $17,471.78. All proceeds, as promised, will be donated to the two designated beneficiaries Food from the Heart and the Class of 2013 Book Grant in equal proportions. More details about the 2 beneficiaries can be found later within this report.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and donors. Without your enthusiasm and support, we would not have been able to achieve this remarkable success for Faces of Life. We hope that you have found the experience as rewarding as it has been for us producing and organizing it.

In this report, we are honoured to share with you more information on Faces of Life. We would also love to hear your feedback and comments so that the subsequent batches of NUS Law students can make future Law IV Concerts even more meaningful.

Thank you, Law IV 2013 Faces of Life Organizing Committee

Beneficiaries
The primary purpose of the Law IV Concerts is to raise funds for charity and give back to society. This year, we wanted to do more for our beneficiaries. It was our wish to contribute more than just a one-off monetary donation, and to forge a stronger and genuine relationship with our beneficiaries. Hence, we invited volunteers from Food from the Heart, our designated beneficiary, to enjoy a night of performance put up by the Class of 2013. In addition, the Class of 2013 Book Grant was also initiated as an effort that will continue beyond our graduation, and serve as an avenue for us to give back to the Faculty as alumni in the future.

Food from the Heart To reach out to the less-fortunate and brighten their lives by alleviating hunger through a food distribution programme and bringing joy through the distribution of toys and birthday celebrations.

Food from the Heart was founded by an Austrian couple, Henry and Christine Laimer, who had made Singapore their second home for a good number of years. Christines motivation to find a win-win solution to ending bread wastage in Singapore, and the couples experience in the logistics field helped greatly in kickstarting the programme in 2002. Subsequently, the bread distribution program has now expanded into many more charitable new initiatives, including, amongst many more, a toy redistribution program and a food donation scheme for the needy. As of now, 151 welfare homes and institutions such as childrens homes, senior citizens homes, Senior Activity Centres (located at the void decks of HDB blocks), handicapped homes and day care centres for children from troubled backgrounds, receive a daily bread supply from Food from the Heart. Many needy individuals and families have also benefited greatly through the various programs of Food from the Heart. For more information, please visit www.foodheart.org.

Class of 2013 Book Grant The Class of 2013 Book Grant is an initiative kick-started by this years graduating batch. This is the first time such a scheme would be put in place. The Book Grant seeks to provide financial support for the less privileged students within the faculty, providing them financial assistance to purchase essential items for school. In this way, we are not only assisting the less fortunate members within our society, but also giving back closer to home, the NUS Law school community which has nurtured us during our legal education. As aforementioned, it would be a Book Grant which would be in continuance even after we graduate, providing an avenue for the Class of 2013 to make financial donations towards a specific worthy cause. The Book Grant will be administered by the Faculty, and as a start we aim to provide 2-3 cash grants per year to bursary holders in Law School.
