You may know me from the Will It Blend? videos, where I pulverize everything from rake handles to iPhones in Blendtecs highpowered blenders. But long before the Will It Blend? series exploded on YouTube, I was blending wood 2x2s with my blenders to test their limits. In fact, I grew up putting big motors in little things.
n the early 1970s, I was a manufacturing engineer at a pharmaceutical company in California, enjoying the opportunity to develop medical-related products. I also had an interest in home food storage, and one day I accidentally spilled some wheat on my garage oor. After cleaning up the grain with a vacuum, out of curiosity I inspected the contents of the vacuum bag and noticed that some of the wheat had been ground to our. Inspired, I invented a grain mill that revolutionized the home milling industry. Always looking for ways to innovate, next I focused on developing the perfect mixer to make wholesome bread dough in minutes. With its autoknead function, the mixer does the labor-intensive work for you and then stops when the dough is perfect. In the 1990s, as smoothie shops became popular, I noticed the need for high-powered blenders to achieve smooth blends. Accepting the challenge, I developed a blender with a large motor and preprogrammed blend cycles, topped with a square jar. The blender was a huge success, introducing many of the technologies found in commercial blending today. I believe that high-quality products belong in the home as well as in restaurants, so I introduced commercial-grade power and functionality into the home kitchen arena. Blendtecs team of engineers is constantly looking for ways to further improve our products. The most recent example is the Designer Series blender, which combines cutting-edge technology with artful design. Im proud of Blendtecs achievements in technology and innovation. But even more, Im proud that were helping individuals and families live healthier, simpler lives.
