SAHARANPUR, INDIA

1st Announcement
Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee is among the foremost of institutes of national importance in higher technological education and in engineering, basic and applied research. Since its establishment, the Institute has played a vital role in providing the technical manpower and know-how to the country and in pursuit of research. The Institute ranks amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. It has also been considered a trend-setter in the area of education and research in the field of science, technology, and engineering. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Saharanpur Campus, formerly known as the School of Paper Technology was established by the Government of India in 1964, with an aid from the Royal Swedish Government. This school was managed managed by a Society created by U.P. Government until its merger with the then University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee since 2001) in 1978. 2013 - 14 is its Golden Jubilee year. Saharanpur Campus is well planned and developing Campus acquiring 25 acres of land with the distance of around 50 kms from the Roorkee campus. The Saharanpur campus has three departments viz. Department of Paper Technology, Department of Polymer and Process engineering and Department of Applied Sciences and Engineering on March 1, 2012. Materials for Energy and Environment Materials for Corrosion and Wear resistance Cellulosic and Biomaterials Polymeric Materials Smart Materials Materials Modelling

The conference will be held at Indain Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Saharanpur Campus (UP-247001) during April 5th and 6th, 2014.

Saharanpur is 170 kilometres northwest from New Delhi, situated in the foothills of Himalaya. It is well connected by rail and road with travel time of about 4 hours. Famous for wood carving industry, tourist places viz Dehradoon, Mussorie and religious places viz Haridwar, Rishikesh etc. are also near by. During beginning of April, temperature in Saharanpur varies between 22 32 celsius.

Materials development is considered a benchmark of progress of human race identified with the Stone Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. The advent of transistors saw the Silicon Age. The evolution of nanotechnology started in 1980s resulting in development of nanomaterials, currently in rapid advancement stage and hoped to become mass market commodity in the coming decade. Alongside, one notices emergence of smart materials, biomaterials, materials for energy storage, coatings for aerospace technology, nanoengineered alloys for armaments and industrial machinery. These materials need to operate reliably under corrosive/hostile environment. Accordingly, emergence of these materials and new applications is increasing the demands for performance and reliability. Present conference envisages to bring together researchers, developers, and users from around the world in industry and academia for sharing their views to compile an overview of the state of the art and upcoming trends on the above aspects of emerging materials.
