Gloucestershire County Junior League 2013-2014

Round 1 26th December 2013 Stroud started Round 1 in fine style with a 6-1 win against Cirencester and a 7-0 win against Cheltenham. Stroud boys Billy Shilton, Ben Glover and Ras Haycraft were all unbeaten with Billy and Bens wins over Cheltenhams No 1 Jamie Theyer the highlights. Cirencesters point came from Iasabelle Crouch, just getting the better of Katie Trinder who was making a welcome return to competitive table tennis. With Cheltenham not providing a girl, Katie had to wait some time before her match against Gloucesters Margaret Pang. Margaret won in 3 straight games but they were all close. Ben Glover had an excellent 3-0 win against Ben Roberts to give Stroud a great start against last years winners and favourites Gloucester and followed that up with a 3-0 win against Sam Turner to remain unbeaten on the day. Ras Haycraft tried his hardest against Sam Turner and Owen Berry but was outplayed in the end and so the match result depended on the game between Billy and Owen. As predicted this was very close with some great rallies. At 2-2 and 11-10 in the fifth, Billy was favourite but Owen came back to take it 13-11 and clinch the match for Gloucester 4-3.
