5 Tips Contd
3. Dont try new recipes

This is the key to stress-free

entertaining. As soon as you know company is coming plan your theme and your menu. Shop ahead too. Make a list and go grocery shopping a minimum of one day ahead so you dont end realizing youre out of an essential ingredient when your guests are moments away.

4 eggs 1 2/3 cup granulated sugar 1 cup oil 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 (16-ounce) can pumpkin 2 tsp each baking pwd & cinnamon 1 tsp each baking soda & salt 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, beat together the eggs, oil, sugar and pumpkin until light and fluffy. In another bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, baking soda and nutmeg. Add to pumpkin mixture and mix thoroughly. Spread batter in an ungreased 15 10 jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Let cool before frosting. Frosting 2 (3-ounce) packages cream cheese 1 cup butter (2 sticks) 2 tsp vanilla extract 3 3/4 cups icing sugar Instruction: Cream together cream cheese and butter. Stir in vanilla. Add icing sugar and stir until mixture is smooth. Frost cooled bars then cut into squares. Makes about 2 dozen.

Experimenting in the
kitchen is great, but your guests are not guinea pigs (thats what family is for!). This is the time for tried and true recipes.

4. Know your guests

Whether youve invited

old friends or your new boss, be sure to ask in advance if they have any likes, dislikes, and most importantly, dietary restrictions. The last thing you want is to prepare a huge seafood feast only to learn that someone at the table is allergic or a vegetarian.

2. Make recipes in advance

Recipes that can be

prepared in advance will save you time and stress. It will also be more pleasant for your guests when they arrive you can greet and spend time with them instead of rushing off to the kitchen. Marinated, ovenbaked dishes can be prepared ahead and you can time it so your guests arrive to delicious aromas. (contd in column three) .

5. Have munchies out

Its nice to have something out for guests to snack on as soon as they arrive. This often gets conversation going and buys you time for any last-minute kitchen preparations. Relax and enjoy.

The waters of the Rideau River are home to some huge monsters of the depths?

Musky from the Rideau River Cam Stewart

Curry Park is located in Kemptville on Kemptville Creek and is a good town launch facility with a dock and nearby parking. There is no fee to launch at Curry Park.

Come musky fishing this Fall

(season open til Dec. 15). North Grenville is a fisher's delight. Bounded on the north by the Rideau River and straddling the South Branch of the Rideau, our area has some of the best fishing holes in Eastern Ontario. "The waters in North Grenville support a healthy population of Musky that can be caught and released from a boat, canoe, kayak, or shore" - Cam Stewart, local resident. The Ministry of Natural Resources website (http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca) lists four great places to launch your fishing vessel. Curry Park, Pirate Cove Marina, Rideau River Provincial Park and Muldoon Launch.

Rideau River Provincial Park is located on Donnelly Drive north of the Rideau River. It has an excellent concrete ramp with floating docks and close parking. You may want to check the water depth if you have a larger-draft vessel . Canoe rentals, Tackle Share, picnicking, beach and playground facilities are available with your day-use permit.

Pirate Cove Marina is located on Kemptville Creek between Kemptville and the Rideau River, off the Rideau River Road. Its a good commercial facility with a ramp and parking available to day users.

Muldoon Launch provides good access to the Burritts Rapids area for small boats, but the ramp needs improvement. No fee, no designated parking. You can find this launch by traveling west from Kemptville on Hyw #43 to Muldoon Road (approximately three km). Take Muldoon Road north to River Road.

Sudoku
Every Sudoku puzzle has a unique solution that can be reached logically. Every 3x3 box should contain the numbers 1 to 9 (once only). Every column should contain the numbers 1 to 9 (once only) and every row, as well, should contain the numbers 1 to 9 (once only). Enter numbers into the blank spaces so that each row, column and 3x3 box contains the numbers 1 to 9. Sorry no solutions with these two.
