WHATS HAPPENING AT VANCE With a focus on the Month of the Military Family, the Vance Library, Bldg 314,

will be hosting a Family Fun Night on Tuesday, 19 November starting at 6:30 p.m. with a special invitation to family members of deployed Vance members. There will be a guest reader plus a craft that can be made and sent to a deployed family member. Refreshments will be served. VANCE MASQUERADE BALL TICKETS: Tickets are on sale for the 2014 Vance Masquerade Ball. Tickets can be purchased from group POCs. Checks or cash only. Make checks payable to AFSA. LOVE AND LOGIC: A Love and Logic parenting class is scheduled for Nov. 19 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Base Library. The class will cover the basic principles of the Love and Logic parenting strategy; focused on teaching children to be responsible by replacing anger, lectures and threats with empathy and logical choices. TOYS FOR TOTS: Toys for Tots is gearing up for the 2013 Christmas season and Volunteers are needed to ensure the program's success. This nonprofit gives toy to less fortunate children in Garfield and four surround communities. Last year Toys for Tots distributed more than 18,000 toys and stocking stuffers to local children. 'Santa's helpers' are needed for stocking shelves and toy shopping with parents. Distribution takes place Monday through Friday, December 9-13 and December 16-20. Volunteers are needed for two, three or four hour time slots starting at 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on all week days. CGOC ADOPT A FAMILY: The Vance Company Grade Officers Corps is sponsoring Vance's first-ever "Adopt a Family Thanksgiving" from Nov. 1822. Unit reps will solicit food and monetary donations to provide less fortunate members of the Enid community a Thanksgiving meal. The goal is to provide a meal for 20 families. LEADERSHIP PATHWAYS CLASSES: - Discover Your Strengths is scheduled for Nov. 19 from 12:30-12:55 p.m. at the Professional Development Center. Individuals will discover their most dominant strengths and learn how their "signature strengths" help them excel. They will recognize the unique traits that make them who they are, and begin their path to better performance and higher engagement. An on-line assessment is required at https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/Purchase/. The $10 fee is paid for by attendee. Col. John Menozzi, the 71st Flying Training Wing vice commander, will be teaching a follow up class on this topic Dec. 17. - Board of Directors is scheduled for Nov. 21 from noon to 12:25 p.m. at the Professional Development Center. This course shares the Vietnam era "Pardo Push" story and how Pardo's board of directors pushed him to do something amazing. Participants will discover their Board of Directors and develop a Spiritual Reminder. - Mindfulness and Meaning is scheduled for Nov. 21 from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the Professional Development Center. In the military and as a leader there are many things Airmen cannot control: permanent changes of station, additional duties, deployments, crisis etc... This course will provide practical skills on how to quickly cope with things that members cannot control. This course shares an inspirational story from the Oklahoma City bombing, discusses the 80/20 rule, and provides hands on techniques to take back control.
