November Business Luncheon With Florence

The November 19th Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon , held at the Best Western International Hotel in Romulus, featured Florence Klein as guest speaker. Florence is the founder of the Helping Hand Thrift Shop located at 37510 Huron River Drive near Five Points and next to the Romulus Bowling Lanes. Helping Hand Thrift Shop has been in operation for 35 years, helping the less fortunate by providing food, clothing and dry goodsfree of charge. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, countless canned goods, turkeys, hams and other food commodities are distributed to families in the area. Klein shared her story and described how their mission to help the area families is being challenged in 2013. Romulus and Belleville Chamber Workshop


The Romulus and Belleville Chambers teamed up with Wayne County Community CollegeWestern Campus and offered a free management skills workshop to Chamber members. The November 7th event featured Glenda Haskell, owner of Full Spectrum Career Success. Glenda is Individual and Group Coach. Drawing from the work of experts in the field of positive leadership and her own experience, Haskell taught attendees practical strategies for those in leadership positions. A free lunch was provided by WCCC. Future workshops in 2014 are planned. Watch for details!

Special Tree Rehabilitation System Named Top Workplace


Special Tree Rehabilitation System, a leader in brain injury and spinal cord injury rehabilitation, has been named one of the best places to work in Michigan by the Detroit Free Press on their annual Top Workplaces list. The Top Workplaces list was published Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the Detroit Free Press. The list recognizes the top 100 Michigan companies and is based entirely on how employees feel about their workplace. Special Tree is familyowned and operated since 1974. They provide a full range of care for children and adults including inpatient, outpatient, residential, home and community services at over 25 locations throughout Southeastern Michigan. Id like to give my special thanks to our employees, not only for all their hard work and dedication, but also for sharing their positive workplace experiences, said CEO Joe Richert.

The Chamber of Commerce extends a warm welcome to a new Romulus business and Chamber Member! The Romulus Touchless Car Wash, 29349 Northline Rd., Romulus is now open for business. Their uniquely designed car wash is equipped to clean service vehicles 7.5 tall, and 8.5 wide. They also clean dual-wheeled vehicles. Boasting Wash and Hot Wax, services offered are: under carriage wash; wheel blast, presoak soap, power wash, wax, spot free rinse and air dryers. Who Will Be the 2014 Romulus Person of the Year?


The Greater Romulus Chamber of Commerce is now receiving nominations for the 29th Person of the Year. Criteria for the nominees are individuals that have made significant contributions to Romulus and its residents. A biographical synopsis should be provided stating reasons the nominee should be awarded the Person of the Year. The award banquet will be held in the Spring 2014. Storm Damage and Fizzled Communications


November high winds and rain took its toll on the Romulus Chamber of Commerce Office! Storm damage to Chamber communications included the main computer shutting down, no internet access, phone service knocked out and links to the office copier lost! The office is slowly recovering from the damage. The computer has been repaired and internet access has been restored. Unfortunately, phone service is still out!
