Social Events
Our first big social event of the year was a bonfire at th Mozingo Lake. We had it on Sunday, October 13 , and several girls showed up. Needless to say, we roasted a ton of smores! Overall, the event was a hit, and the weather was perfect! It was a great bonding experience because we played a huge game of Never have I ever Talk about comical! The second social event that our Vice President helped put together was a mixer with Phi Delta Theta. Phi Delt approached us and asked if we would like to have a mixer with them. We thought it was a great opportunity for our group to get to know another group, so we ended up going bowling with the guys on a Thursday night! We also had our annual Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas parties! The food for our Thanksgiving meal was delicious, and we had a great time admiring everyones ugly sweaters at the Christmas party.

The last big social event of the semester was a movie night/scrapbooking night! Tori reserved the giant lecture hall in Colden and the girls were able to watch one of their favorite chick flicks (Pitch Perfect) while making their own scrapbook page! All of the pages went into one large scrapbook that will be kept by Sigma and can be added to in the future. .

Fundraising
Our first fundraiser of the year went great! We sold roughly 151 homecoming shirts. They were priced at $10, and Sigma Society made a profit of approximately $230. The money was donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County. Below is one of the designs that we sold!

Another fundraiser Sigma Society did this semester was selling American Paw t-shirts. Sigma was able to sell shirts with a new copyright on them in order to raise money for our troops. Our girls sold a total of 396 shirts and raised approximately $1,227 to donate to Military SOS. We recently started signups for another order! Below is the American paw shirt design!

Special Surprise
Our public relations chair got a nice surprise this last semester. She was contacted by a Sigma Society Alumni member from California. Monica Meyer was a member of Sigma Society from 2005-2007, and she recently lost all of her Sigma items in a flood. She contacted MacKenzie asking if Sigma Society could donate any Sigma Society/Northwest clothing to her. She said that she likes to show her Bearcat pride! MacKenzie sent pictures of our homecoming tshirts this year and all of the shirts in our Sigma Closet. Monica ended up purchasing one homecoming shirt and three shirts from the Sigma Closet. I wanted to share this story with all of you because I feel that this is true sisterhood. Monica has been an alumni member for seven years, and she still wants to support Northwest and Sigma Society! That really shows how great our campus is, and as the saying goes.Once a Bearcat, Always a Bearcat!

Service Week Review

Fall service week was a huge success! Overall, the girls completed 599 hours of service! I just wanted to give you a few statistics to put this into perspective. Eighteen girls volunteered at the Humane Society, 79 girls participated in Highway Cleanup, and there were over 63 volunteers at apple picking. There were 350 pounds of food collected at Walmart and the Station, and there was $21 given in monetary donations. Over 400 fall/Thanksgiving door decorations were made to hang up at the Golden Living Center, and eight service hours were given for hanging up those 400 decorations. The 63+ volunteers at apple picking picked a total of 2,250 pounds of apples that were then donated to the Ministry Center. Our service co-chairs even received a letter from the coordinator of the event thanking our group for all of the help and telling us how wonderful our group is! Aside from all of those events, we collected around 1,077 box tops that added up to a $100+ donation to Horace Mann. We also collected 45 ounces of pop tabs!

Recruitment Events
Our recruitment chairs did an amazing job this semester! Our grand total for number of pledges to be activated was 41! With that many pledges, we DOUBLED our number of actives. The theme for activation was Sigma Girls are the Sweetest, and Jess and Malikia set up a candy bar for the new actives. Our service co-chair, Kim Dacy, also supplied cupcakes for the event. After the ceremony, we had a chance to watch a slideshow that included individual pictures of all the new actives (We have to learn 41 new names and faces somehow!). Mom-Dot week was a blast, just like always! All of us moms enjoyed seeing the gifts posted on Facebook, and we tried our best to confuse the dots when they would guess who their mom was. At the end of the week was obviously Mom-Dot Reveal, and again, our co-chairs went above and beyond for the event! Before the girls could find out who their moms were they had to complete a few tasks! First, they had to stand up and read the last set of clues that were given to them. Once they were finished with that, they had to write their name on a piece of paper that looked like a door and tape it to who they thought was their mom (door decsget it?!) Once all of the girls were finished with their clues, they had to complete an obstacle course full of fun games. Stations ranged from balancing a rubber duck on your head and hula-hooping to pinning the beak on the duck to moving cotton balls across the table with only your nose and Vaseline! The girls had a ton of fun, and some of the moms couldnt resist jumping in to play also. When it finally came time to find out who their moms were, they had to pop a balloon full of names. They had to sort through several fake names in order to find their real mom!

Turkey Trot
One of the last big service events of the semester was the Turkey Trot put on by AMA. Each group that signed up was assigned a section of town to go collect food from for the Ministry Center. The group with the most pounds collected won $100. Second place received $50. Sigma society had three to four car loads of girls that went out to collect. We ended up placing first with 243 pounds of food, and we received the $100 check! Second place collected 184 pounds, and third place collected 145 pounds. The girls did a fantastic job, and we had the biggest turnout for the event!
