1) The reactance of a cable operating in an A.C. system depends on many factors,

including, in particular, the axial spacing between conductors and the proximity and

2) Pulling tension
The cable pulling tension during installation can be estimated through the following formula:
For armored cable
P=50N x total cross section area of conductors
For unarmored cable
P=25N x total cross section area of conductors
Additional tention will be supplied from the braid and the insulation and sheathing material.
3) Minimum temperature during installation
The minimum recommended temperature during installation cables should not be lower

Core Identification
1 Midium voltage power cables of 3.6/6kV, 6/10kV, 8.7/15kV and 12/20kV

1-core: Off-white insulation + black semi conducting layers
3-core: Off-white insulation + black semi conducting layers--off-white(grey)-blackred tape/ thread in spiral around the cores
Earthing core: Green/Yellow
2 Low voltage power cables of 0.6/1kV
1-core: Off-white(grey)
2-core: Off-white, black
3-core: Off-white, black and red
4-core: Off-white, black, red and blue
5-core and above: Black numbers on white base
Earthing core: Green/Yellow
3 Instrumentation and communication cables of 250V
Pair: black, light blue
Triple: black, light blue, brown
Pairs/triple are numbered with numbered tape or by numbers printed directly on
the insulated conductors
Sheath colours
1. Cables up to and including 250V shall have a GREY sheath.
2. Cables for 0.6/1kV shall have a BLACK sheath
3. Cables for voltages higher than 0.6/1kV shall have a RED sheath.

Terms and Properties

Definition of terms
Flame retardant
The cables shall withstand the test specified in IEC 60332-3-22. And single, earth and bonding
wires shall withstand the test specified in IEC 60032-1.
Fire resistant
Fire resistant cables shall be tested in accordance with IEC 60331-21 or IEC 60331-31.
Content of halogen
To demonstrate that the cable is halogen-free it shall be tested to IEC 60754. The maximum
content of halogen is 5mg/g.
Smoke emission
During a cable fire the light transmition is recommended to have a minimum value of 60% when
tested in accordance with IEC 61034.
Oil resistant
All thermoset sheathed cables shall be suitable for an oil production installation. The oil resistance
properties shall be demostrated by a test according to IEC 60092-359 SHF2 with the cable
immersed in IRM oil no. 902 at 100 for 24h.
Mud resistance
In accordance with NEK TS 606 the mud resistance cables shall have a sheath (SHF Mud) that
complies with the requirements in IEC 60092-359 for SHF2 and the below specified.
Mud resistant cables shall be designed with sheathing compounds suitable for installation and
operation in contact with MUD unless otherwise specified.
