Some of my favorite things

by Clydene Overbey I saw a website called, These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things. It has pictures of beautiful and precious things like flowers and kids. Very nice, but I wonder what they would do with pictures of some of my favorite things? There are my favorite jeans, torn out at the pocket and waist. Throw away my bestest most comfortable jeans. Youve got to be kidding, right? Ill keep wearing them until they fall off me. Then there are my favorite shoes. Theyve been with me for a very long time. Ive walked on them, thrown them across the room, and tried to ignore them. I noticed that the soles are coming off. Ive glued those soles back on until they wont stick anymore. But throw away my most comfortable shoes? There is just no way. Ill wear them until I walk out of them. My favorite jammies have been washed so many times they are thin as paper and the elastic at the waist is stretched thin. Throw away my favorite jammies? Heck fire no. Ill sleep in them until I get up some morning and, poof, they are gone. I have a favorite cup for my coffee. How dare anyone use my coffee cup. That would be worse than using my toothbrush, eww. As a matter of fact Ive had several favorite cups because I break them and lose them. I have a favorite spot to sit at the dinner table. That is my chair, dont try to sit there. If you do, I wont be able to enjoy my meal. That is a time when I would rather not have to use my manners. Things and people grow comfortable with time and you hang on tight. There are some things and people that become favorite things right away. As a kid I had favorite friends. We squabbled at times, but always in the end those favorites stayed, probably because I was their favorite. Ive always had my favorite foods and that hasnt changed. As a kid we had lots

Projects win awards

Mrs. Emricks 8th grade class worked in groups to design an invention. One group developed a portable projector they called the Mobile Device Projector 3000 which displays a cell phone image on the wall for a large group to see. This project was selected as Most Creative, Most Original and Best Overall.

Another group developed a Catfish Trap which was selected as Most Practical. The catfish will swim in to get the food and cannot get out. Students had to incorporate a wire hanger and could only use five products. the nine-month program, which is entering its third year, is looking for a diversity of highly motivated applicants to represent all walks of life in Franklin County. Our previous classes have been extremely successful, she said. Throughout their time in the program, class members have received an inside look at the many factors that are important to our region, such as the school and healthcare systems, agriculture and local and state government. Also, theyve learned about leadership skills and formed new networks that benefit business relationships. I really think this is the best venue for bringing together leaders from different areas to better Franklin County and beyond. Anyone interested is encouraged to apply or nominate someone they think would benefit from this kind of experience. Applications, nomination forms and other information, including costs and a schedule of events, are available at www.atu.edu/ozark/lfc, or by calling Gage at (479) 508-3371 or e-mailing her at mgage@a tu.edu. *** Keep Our City Litter-Free

I hope everyone had a great week. Congratulations to my girls, Lakyn and Laryn Robinson, on passing their PLT tests, now all they have to do is finish college and graduate on May 17. So exciting! My girls will be teachers! We want to congratulate Katrina Bradley on getting accepted to pharmacy school in Little Rock last week. We are so proud of all of you. Greg and Amber Willis and family and Dwight and Peggy Stepp spent part of the weekend in Branson. The benefit for the family of Sherlene Ragsdale did really well last Saturday night in Ozone. Lauren Robinson took me out to lunch last Wednesday at Van Buren. Thank you, Lauren, it was delicious. Happy belated birthday to Earl Wyers and Lola Turner. They both had birthdays last week. Visitors last week at the DeLorn Coopers were Mike, Jennifer, Joel and Marlene Cooper, Judy Criss, Sharon

Cowell and Mary McGuire. Josephine Cooper made several visits to the chiropractor last week. Joel and Marlene Cooper and Mary McGuire all took turns escorting her to her appointments. Mike and Jennifer have been staying part of the last two weeks with their daughter, Kelsey, in Little Rock at the hospital. Kelseys mother, Jamela, has also been staying with her. Get well soon, Kelsey! Have a great week!

of pinto beans, fried potatoes, corn bread, and a slice of a big red onion. Everything but the corn bread came from Daddys garden. That is still my favorite meal. Boy would I chow down if I had some now straight from Daddys garden. Like my favorite shoes, jammies, cup, place at the dinner table, etc., things change with time and space. Things wear out, fade away, break, and leave. Nothing remains the same, not even my favorite meal. Food is just not as tasty anymore mostly because of our environment. Daddys garden produced a type of homegrown that does not exist anymore. No additives, fast growers, or chemicals. It really was home grown and not what is grown now. Favorite things? I have lots of favorite things and favorite people. Some of them are gone now and new faces have come along. I imagine there will be many more too numerous to even contemplate. Favorite things arent always attractive to anyone else. My favorite people are not necessarily yours. There were five girls in my class all through school. Pat and Ruby were close friends, Betty and Billie were close friends. That left me, and I had a special friendship with all of them. I felt blessed to be the middle child, so to speak. So if I was to develop a favorite things website I dont think very many people would be interested. Now aint that a crying shame? Here is my favorite Bible verse. Isaiah 41:10:Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
