Health and Safety

Hazard Identification - There may be a risk of cuts from sharp edges or projections. Structural products must be installed in accordance with their specific instructions to prevent the risk of failure. Handling, Storage and Disposal - Handling of materials must comply with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Protective gloves should be worn when handling or cutting material to prevent injury from sharp edges. Some products may have a film of mineral cutting fluid after manufacture, therefore carry out personnal hygiene including proper washing of hands after contact. HY-RIB from EXPAMET

INTRODUCTION
Expamet Hy-Rib is an expanded metal sheet product, specifically developed for use as permanent formwork to concrete. The profile of the open mesh, in combination with the Hy-Rib tangs, allow the development of dense concrete nodules and indents on the face of the Hy-Rib, forming an enhanced mechanical key for the second phase pour. In the case of visible elements, the resulting Hy-Rib surface is suitable to receive a rendered or tiled finish. Hy-Rib is primarily used in construction joint applications but it is also used to form wall, beam & column surfaces and slabs soffits, where the formed surface will not be seen. For over 80 years Hy-Rib has been successfully used as permanent formwork on innumerable building & infrastructure projects, throughout the world. Hy-Rib has an enviable portfolio of technical data. Independent bodies have undertaken full scale testing programmes to determine and verify Hy-Ribs effectiveness in forming construction joints. The result is a product with well defined engineering properties, established formwork pressure characteristics and measured improvements to the joint performance. Hy-Rib is certified for use as permanent formwork by the British Board of Agrment (BBA).

HY-RIB FEATURES AND TERMINOLOGY

The Edge Rib is designed to nest tightly with the Edge Rib of an adjacent Hy-Rib sheet. This forms a tight sheet to sheet connection throughout its length and maximises the rigidity of the sheet joint in the temporary works condition Hy-Rib Tangs are designed to become embedded in the first phase concrete pour, anchoring the sheet, preventing any risk of the sheet de-bonding from the concrete. Hy-Rib Intermediate Ribs provide inherent stiffness in the length of the sheet so that it can span between supports Open Mesh allows bleed water to escape providing a dense, impenetrable concrete zone at the surface and immediately behind the Hy-Rib

HY-RIB PRODUCT RANGE

Expamet Hy-Rib formwork is manufactured in England to the quality requirements of BSEN ISO 9001: 2000 using hot dipped zinc coated steel sheet DX51D+Z275 to BS EN 10327. Stainless Steel Hy-Rib is available to special order.

Hy-Rib is available in three thickness grades. Each of the three Hy-Rib grades has a distinctive coloured stripe inside the rib.

Thickness (Steel Gauge)

0.4mm 3.39kg/m2

0.5mm 4.23kg/m2

0.75mm 6.34kg/m2

REASONS TO USE EXPAMET HY-RIB

Reduced risk of Hand & Arm vibration injury (white finger): product featured in HSE document - Vibration Solutions Ref HS (G) 170 When Hy-Rib is used as vertical formwork, the resulting formwork pressure is significantly less than that developed with traditional forming materials, reducing the overall support requirement. Expamet Hy-Rib joint surfaces require minimal preparation prior to the next pour, with the exception of the rebar cover zones. It minimises the labour, mess and disposal requirements associated with scabbling, chemical retarders and jet washing. A correctly formed Hy-Rib joint outperforms traditionally prepared joints in shear and bond. Hy-Rib reduces the risk of trapped air and voids within the concrete. The range of narrower sheet widths improves site productivity and minimises wastage. Hy-Rib is a proven construction product with comprehensive technical data, manufactured by an established UK company

HY-RIB BENEFITS

HY-RIB FAQ

HY-RIB BENEFITS

In all joint applications, Hy-Rib permanent formwork can give considerable performance and economic benefit when compared with traditional solutions
Compliance with CDM requirement to design out risk (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome associated with construction joint preparation) Product independently certified for use by the British Board of Agrment Increased surface roughness at joint Hy-Rib joint stronger in shear and flexure compared to traditionally prepared joint surface High durability surface layer Successfully used in water retaining structures

HY-RIB - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can Hy-Rib be used in water retaining structures with or without water bar/water stop? Does Hy-Rib cause Honeycombing? YES. Hy-Rib has been successfully used in water retaining/excluding structures, with and without water stop/bars. It is easily split to suit the stop location.

PERMANENT WORKS DESIGNERS AND ASSET OWNERS

NO. Hy-Rib joints greatly reduce the risk of honeycombing. Traditional shuttering entraps air during concrete placement. Hy-Ribs unique open mesh design allows the air to be expelled through it thus reducing the risk. Tests have confirmed that the compressive strength and density of the concrete that is in contact with the Hy-Rib are higher than those of the concrete within the pour Three grades of Hy-Rib give the temporary works designer more opportunity to optimise the support system. The alternative sheet gauges allow varying spacing of supports YES. Hy-Rib should always be fixed with the point of the ribs and tangs facing into the first phase pour. Hy-Rib requires the same concrete cover as the reinforcement unless stainless steel Hy-Rib is being used. Hy-Rib can be fixed with the ribs running horizontally or vertically, provided the support is at right angles to the ribs. CONTRACTOR AND PRODUCTION TEAM

Compliance with CDM requirement to design out risk (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome associated with construction joint preparation) Minimise preparation time between consecutive concrete pours Light weight for manual handling - labour saving Hy-Rib can be fixed before or after reinforcement placement. Less material wastage and reduce cutting with narrow width product Flexible in one direction - for shaping Less overall support system - due to load reduction - also eases strike Minimal surface preparation work to next pour Easier to see and monitor concrete during pour Increased rate of rise Good performance with all concrete types Technical assistance, site training and inspection available Can you explain the order code?
