Job: GRP LEAK TEST Accepted Yes / No
:

Part 1: Procedure:
Refer to Micro-Tunnelling Method of Statement for the previous steps.
(AWP-1722-E-MST-CV-0007-01).
Insertion of GRP Pipes:
The pit must be of sufficient size to provide ample working space for the jacking
head, jacks, jacking frame, reaction blocks, spoil removal and one or two sections
of pipe.
The GRP pipe is connected with the help of coupler and adhesive to make a
strong bond and then inserted into the pit through micro tunnelling process.
The GRP pipe is nested in a jacket pipe. In order to avoid direct contact between
both pipes, spacers centre the GRP pipe.
By assuring that the pipe ends are parallel, and the jacking force properly
distributed through the jacking frame to the pipe and parallel with the axis of the
pipe
Preparation of Leak Test:
Installation of the test plugs /End Caps shall start in parallel with the partial
backfilling of the pipes upon the approved survey levels and installation, test plug
shall be properly installed and adequately supported to ensure the plugs will not
come off during water filling and testing. Tools such as pressure pump & Pressure
Gauge should be fixed firmly.
Before Test, the testing technicians shall check and confirm the following
-The testing section has been isolated, Signage indicating test in Progress.
-All equipment’s are in good conditions for testing
Water tanker shall be guided into the area which the line section will be tested,
the tanker is directed through the flag man to avoid any possible unwanted
collision or accidents, once the water tanker is in place and completely stopped
the worker may then start dragging the filling hose from the tanker to the inlet pipe
on the test plug to start the water filling.
The test section should be filled with water and ensure that no air is trapped in the
section. The Ball valve should be connected to the system to expel any trapped
air and to ensure that the system is completely filled with water
Check visually for any water leaks on (pipes, fittings). If any leak found that
damaged pipe / fittings has to be repaired prior to the test.
-During filling venting of air shall be carried out progressively as the lines are
filled.
-Testing Pressure in the system shall be increased slowly,
-Check for any leak in the system simultaneously
The duration time of test shall in compliance with KKIA spec (2 hour)
After the test time (2hr) there shouldn’t be any drop in the pressure and
accordingly the test is considered as approved.
If the test fail and found the leak in the joints, gradually reduce the pressure and
fix the joints of leak area and re do the testing in order to approved for the
backfilling.
After completion of testing, all system shall be reinstated as per drawings and
specification Remove of all temporary materials such as Test plugs, Pressure
Gauges, fittings and temporary supports used during erection and hydro testing
etc.
