Storyboarding My music consists of a comprehensive narrative that involves a weak-willed teenager in pursuit of an individual who murdered his acquaintance.

On his journey, in college, he reflects on the good days he has spent with his friends, and he learns that not every argument or incident is worth fighting over. I have interpreted the lyrics by selecting each line from the song and I have extended and offered a different meaning from it that is roughly similar to the original lyrics. For instance, the line Plus Dre told me stay out, this just wasnt my beef, I produced a similar but different approach to its meaning thus developing a different interpretation of Even though his friend got bullied, he couldnt interfere because his friend told him to stay out of it where we showed a scene of his friend getting bullied, whilst he tries to interfere, his friend tells him to stay out of it. This in both contexts is about not getting involved in other peoples business. My edit consolidates the songs meaning because I have interpreted each line differently. For example, I took the line I went through my whole career without ever mentioning Suge and consoli dated its meaning by applying a different meaning such as the main character reflecting on how he never actually had any problems with the person who killed his friend before. Before creating my music video, I had to carry out a storyboard detailing the action and lyrics that were going to take place and most of the editing adhered to the storyboard. For instance, the lyric I went through my whole career without ever mentioning *Suge* was incorporated in my editing and I also applied a different interpretation but still keeping to the context of the lyric. I altered the lyric meaning to We could have the main character reflect on how he never actually had any problems with the person who killed his friend before once he was walking down the corridor and the bully fist-bumps him. You should notice that the content of the lyric and my interpretation are quite similar as they are both about respect. However, some couldnt stick to the storyboard because my storyboard indicated the use of children yet I wasnt capable of finding children to participate in music video as it would have been hard to keep them in control and time wouldve also been wasted. In the lyric It wasnt my intentions; my intentions were good was the part where I wanted to show a scene of young people enjoying themselves and they witness someone bullying an individual, which changes their perspective on people. Another aspect of my storyboard couldnt have been incorporated during the film edit because the time where I was supposed to induce this particular scene was taken by a different scene. The timing and the length of several clips were too lengthy; as a result, I relocated several clips to different time lines.

Influences The music video, Not Afraid, by Eminem has inspired my choice of editing simply because it has a compelling and effective narrative with deep and intense drama. Alas, the dramatic effects couldnt have been produced with the editing software in my position. Another music video that had stirred my editing preferences was Many Men (Wish Death), By 50 Cent. Many Men (Wish Death) also had a convincing storyline with good quality cinematography. The difference between Not Afraid and Many Men (Wish Death) is that although they had a strong narrative, Many Men (Wish Death), was straightforward and direct whilst Not Afraid was complex as it was like a fight for inner-freedom. In addition, both had excellent cinematography but had different ways of going on about it - both having a different impacts. In Many Men (Wish Death), you would find some slow motion effect; whereas, in Not Afraid, you would notice more editing techniques applied. Some aspects of my editing link with my research because . Image/Style/Purpose Like Toy Soldier was my preferred song and I suppose that the video works with the song because, as I have mentioned above, each interpretation of the lyrics follows the general meaning of the lyrics. Also, the content to my interpretation and the lyrics is both similar but the circumstances are simply different. Eminem is a Hip-Hop artist and the style that I have used; countless other artists in the same genre use the same style. For example, in many Hip-Hop videos you would witness a narrative usually performed by the characters themselves. My editing shares similar styles with my research videos, Not Afraid and Love the Way You Lie. Firstly, in Not Afraid, the narrative is about Eminems struggles and triumphs. In Love the Way You Lie; the narrative is about Eminems love life. Similarly, my style also follows a narrative but a narrative that follows a different event. Secondly, Not Afraid and Love the Way You Lie are both live footage which my style also matches. Using live footage increases the depth of the lyrics and it could help reinforce the emotion of the lyrics. The techniques that I have included in the music video consist of: cutting to beat; slow motion effect; lip sync; variety of camera movements and angles; and chroma key. Peer Feedback My peers have concluded that the conventions and techniques that I have are very effective in telling the story but the story is too complex and difficult to follow the narrative. Also they strongly suggest that it could be improved to a good standard.

Construction I have found several things difficult from the recording of the music video to the editing process. The recording of the footage took a very considerable amount of time because we had to reshoot many times to get shots from different angles which in the end frustrated me. It was difficult to execute the editing techniques that I knew what they were but I didnt know how to begin executing them especially making sure to keep on one side of the recording while attempting the 180-degree rule. For example, trying to attempt seamless is something I wanted to execute but found it fairly difficult which I did execute with pure luck. Organizing and managing the each and every character was tricky as everyone didnt understand my narrative and everyone was just being stubborn for no reason. Furthermore, I also found the editing, initially, difficult because it was all about trial and error where you werent really aware of what each key elements of Final Cut does at a certain point it became easy I became used to it. I think I havent been able to achieve what I set out to do because I couldnt stick to most of what my storyboard had entailed and I was fairly dissatisfied due to the length of the video. Although, the music video made sense to me, I dont think people would understand what the story is about, initially, if I dont explain it to them. I think the techniques that I used werent really effective in making the narrative easier to understand and I believe the sequence of events were too complex for it was dull and unexciting. When I used Keyer, it automatically keyed out the dominant colour, I could have used Keyer if they were any colour that I wanted to refine. Using Keyer, I could have also increased and decreased the strength of the key meaning by decreasing the strength, I wouldnt be able to see the key; only the green screen. I didnt use Keying, but I couldve used it to make it easier to be able to control parameters within effect and volume control. I couldve used Keying to change the texts colour. To do this, I would have clicked on the text and set the timeline s playhead on where I would like the text to change colour, then on the face section, I would first click on KeyFrame and this would allow me to change the colour of the specific part of the text. Apart from that I couldve also use keying to allow automation of different volumes.

File Formats The video file formats that I have used are MOV and this was transcoded to proxy because it is short, quicker and has low resolution and I also used MPEG. Audio file formats I have is MP3 but this was transmitted to WAV a high quality media to make it work correctly. A still-image format that I have used is JPEG and this stayed as an original media. Time management I personally think I wasnt able to work to schedule because of the unavailability of some actors. The editing took longer than expected because of the selection and replacement of different effects therefore things werent handed in on time. My music video took longer to film because the group wasnt really communicating with each other.
