Song

Song title
Need Somebody to Love

Artist

Ady Suileman

Genre
Indie Pop/ Love Song

What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Pretty girl
Young
Beautiful scenery
Bright colours
Pink,white, gold
A boy
Falling in love with each other
Birds singing
Shots of eyes looking at eachother
Close to eachother

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

I will use lots of slow motion shots in my film, focussing on parts of her body that
stand out e.g her hair, her clothing etc. I will also use footage of the scenery around
her, with the bright sunshine lighting her up and making her stand out. I will use a
realist approach as the song is based on a real life situation. I will also make my video
fairly simplistic therefore the song stands out and people will focus on the lyrics and
how the video is relevant to it. The video will be narrative as when certain lyrics are
sung, the actions of the girl will match those lyrics.

Costume
The character will be wearing a unique outfit that makes her stand out from other
stereotypical British girls and makes her seem different and more intruiging. She will be
wearing a skirt to make her seem more feminine and a white top to show her purity and
innocence.

Lighting

I will be using daylight to make my footage seem very natural and not artificial in any way. I
will also add to the realism of my music video and the fact that the girl is very natural ties the
lighting in with the theme. Although I may have to edit the lighting in the editing stage in order

to enhance the brightness in case the weather is bad during filming

Locations

I will be filming in my own village in a park. It will feature a long country road, and then a
tree, and a set of swings. This is a good natural, beautiful setting that again ties in with the
beauty of the girl in the video.

Shot types
I will mainly be using close ups and wide angles, both of the girl as she walks down the road,
climbs up the tree and swings on the swings. I will try and vary the angles as much as
possible and use as many as possible in order to keep the video interesting as the storyline
is fairly simple.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
I have listened to many other of Ady Suilemans songs in order to get a grip of his
style and other ideas I could incorporate into my video. I have also looked into other
music videos that feature for songs similar than mine. For example, I watched the
original video for Starry Eyes- Ellie Goulding, I also watched Love Yourself Justin
Bieber that features contempry dancing from a couple in a simplistic setting. James
Bay Let It Go follows similar styles to my chosen song and the video is also
simple.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The song sings about a guy who wants to find somebody to love, and is wondering
what she is going to look like when he does meet her. He sings about wanting her to
hurry up and find him so that he can feel love.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
My visuals follow the narrative of the song. As he sings about wondering what the girl will
look like, I will zoom in on features of what she looks like. The whole video will follow the
guys quest to find the girl he is going to love, with the camera man acting as the singer,
following her around, but never seeing her face.
