What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

The style of in concert and as live in music videos show the artist singing the song live
performance of the song as it was done at a real gig performance that they did on their tour.
The audience generally prefer to watch these kind of music videos as they get to see the
artist actually performing the song not just hearing it. In some music videos the style actually
represents the feeling of being at a real concert as you get to see how they perform at a
concert. This style of music video ensures the artists that need to sing or lip-sync to the song
the same way as it was recorded in a studio. The style of in concert and as live uses the
technique of allusion these music videos create an allusion that the audience watching the
music video that you are there at the concert when they are using footage from their previous
live gigs.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

Style (in-concert and as live footage; animation (stop motion, digital); interpretative; narrative;
impressionist; surrealist; pastiche; parody; referencing; homage)

Although music videos of this genre tend to be live in-concert type of music videos but I
decided to be a little different from all of the existing music videos of the genre by using the
style of narrative and homage.
My music video style is a narrative style of music video which consists of a linear storyline
throughout the whole of the music video. Narrative music videos are different to interpretative
music videos as the narrative of the music doesnt need to follow the lyrics of the song.

These type of music videos relies on the visual imagery to create a storyline of the music
video. Also these music video typically wont show the artist singing but will have a linear
narrative which consists of having a beginning, middle and an end. The narrative music
videos will sometimes act like a short film rather being a music video.
Also my music video will be a homage type of music video because in the video and the
song it is paying homage to the J.M Barries Peter Pan story.
Costume
Wendy will be wearing Denim Blue dress and black converses and will have a blue ribbon in
her hair, her costumes is the modern version to what the original Wendy wore in the story.
Tinkerbell wears a green/ yellow dress with white converses with skin coloured tights also
she will have fairy wings and her hair will be in a bun with green and yellow ribbon around it
and also she will have glitter in her hair and on her dress. Tinkerbell will be carrying a small
pouch that is filled with Glitter as her Pixie Dust.
Tiger Lily will be wearing a light brown dress with Aztec belt with burgundy Doc Martins
shoes also she will be wearing a brown headband with three colourful feathers on the back
of it. Tiger Lily will also have red face paint across her eyes.
Peter Pan will be wearing a green top that is a little torn around the shoulders and brown
three-quarter length shorts with black shoes. Also he will be wearing a brown headband with
red and green feathers on the back of it and he will have dark green face paint across his
eyes.
Lighting
Throughout the music video, I will be using natural lighting to make the narrative of the music
video seem more realistic. As most of the music video is it set outside in the woods so the
natural lighting will benefit greatly because using natural lighting it will make the atmosphere
of the forest make the audience feel as if they are there with the characters and the forest
gives the effect that it is more closed in secluded.
Locations
The locations I will be using for my music video is mainly the forest behind the Rotherfield
campus in Henley College for the Neverland scenes. Also at the beginning I will be using the
walk/ ramp that is outside the studio for the scenes where it needs to be set from outside a
house and a window so that Peter can watch ,Wendy and her siblings playing, from.

Shot types
Majority of the music video I will be using a lot of panning shots, mid-shots, close-ups and
wide shots in order to convey the narrative of the music video clear to the audience. I will be
using a lot of mid-shots and wide-shots especially in the scenes where it is set in the forest

which is Neverland.

Research
What music videos have you watched to research your genre?
Bombay Bicycle Club- Always Like This.
This is the most popular song from the Bombay Bicycle Club. This music video
achieved 4,734,956 views on YouTube. This music video featured the most common
technique used in the music genre which is featuring the artist playing the song live
with no story telling aspect to it.
Alt-J- Taro.
This is the most popular and viewed music video that Alt-J have done so far. It achieved
20,456,779 views on YouTube. This music video is similar to the type of music I would like
to create as the music video features a story telling aspect.
Joel Adams- Please Don't Go.
It is the most popular song and music video that Joel Adams have done so far. It
achieved 12,311,098 views on YouTube. In this music video it rejects the idea of the
artist being shown performing at a gig and show him performing his song on location.
Imagine Dragons- Demons.
Is the most viewed and popular song that the Imagine Dragons have done so far. The
video achieved 481,000 views on YouTube. The music style is very similar to the music
from VanLadyLove. This music video features the style of using 'Live Concert gigs in
the music video.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made? Include screen shots of the key
influences

These music videos above has helped me greatly as I have taken some
conventions from these music videos in order to create my own version, such as
using visuals with a narrative to represent the song. Although many of the music
videos that fit in the music genre of my song tend to be live in-concert type of
music videos so I decided to make my music video a little different by putting a
narrative throughout the music video with no one lip-syncing to the song this means
that my music video will be much more noticed as it is a bit different to the usual

style of music video in the music genre.

Lyrics
Insert the song lyrics below
You should just climb up to my window
There's no one around we'd be alone
You should take a chance with something greater,
greater than you have ever known.

It's more than a dream

I need you to see
A place where no one seems to sleep
You know it's more than a dream
I need you to see
Hold my hand and come with me.

Fly away to Neverland, maybe we'll never land

So just take my shaking hand
Fly away to Neverland, baby we'll never land
So just take my hand.

Think that you should climb into my window

You can come join me in my dreams
Stay with me tonight until the sunrise
Hope that we never wake up again.

It's more than a dream

I need you to see
A place where no one seems to sleep
You know it's more than a dream
Between you and me
Hold my hand and come with me.

Fly away to Neverland, maybe we'll never land

So just take my shaking hand
Fly away to Neverland, baby we'll never land
So just take my hand

If you want to fly think of happy thoughts

If you want to fly think of happy thoughts

Fly away to Neverland, maybe we'll never land

So just take my shaking hand
Fly away to Neverland, baby we'll never land
So just take my hand

Fly away to Neverland, maybe we'll never land

So just take my shaking hand
Fly away to Neverland, baby we'll never land
So just take my hand

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?
My music video doesnt have a specific meaning as it is basically about the story of Peter
Pan by J.M Barrie.

How will your visuals relate to the song? (Illustrate, Amplify or Disjuncture)
The visuals of my music video will relate to the song in a story telling narrative way as the
song is about Peter Pan in Neverland so I decided to use visuals of the story of Peter Pan to
go along with the song. The visuals of the song will illustrate the story of Peter Pan in full
detail
