Christal Domingo Questionnaire

1) Do you read music magazines?

10 8 6 4 2 0 No Yes number of students out of 10

Judging from this question asked quite a few young people dont actually read much music magazines as the amount who do read music magazines are clearly out number by those who dont. The possible reason for his would simply be the fact that technology is most commonly used rather than people doing things manually as updates of what goes on in the media can be easily accessed on mobile phones. However this gives me the urge to create something exclusive and original that will well and truly capture my audiences eye and convince them to consider reading more music magazines more often.

2) What do you like about them?

9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Nothing Information Number of students out of 10

The question links with the first to really justify what it is that amuses them most about music magazines, but however the results are a repeat of the first but here we find that the vast majority dont like very much about them, I feel it would have been better if i had really been precise in asking this question I should have added if not what dont you like about them? this would have been a better way for the people filling out the questionnaire to really tell me what it is they dont like so I could avoid making a mistake. Shown on this graph is that a few like the information given will others say they find nothing interesting.

The tally shows me that the majority prefer R&B music more than the genre of music I have originally selected, but this isnt a problem as it can motivate me into aiming high in pleasing my audience as well as those that arent so very keen and for those who arent aware of this particular type of genre.

4) Do you listen to Afrobeats? What do you make of it?

10 8 6 4 2 0 Yes No Number of students out of 10

Many agreed in saying they do listen to the this particular genre of music, this is good because at latest they have some idea and interest about it as quite a few of them feel that it brings the happiness of dancing and socialising. This question was used to really get their overall opinion about afrobeats to see how they feel about it and whether they recognise it , the results of this table clearly presents this.

1) Suggest a layout of a magazine style you have seen an admired I n asking my audience to suggest a style of a magazine they had admired the look of, this would give me an insight to how they would prefer their magazine layout to be suggesting things like the effects used on the images. I think this was a great way of really asking the audience what they like and what they prefer the look of. However only a few were able to give a suggestion of magazines they liked to look of which was XXL and vogue (despite the fact that one of them isn't a music magazine I am still able to use some ideas from it in the design and layout strategy.) The results here shown tell me that not much people really look at magazines, this tells me that I'm going to have to work twice as hard to change their perception of magazines by using their ideas as well as mine to come up with something that would appeal to them.

6) What colours would you expect to see on this type of music magazine?
Black 12% 18% 6% 23% 6% 6% 17% 12% Red White Gold Blue Green Yellow Bright colours

In asking this question I wanted to know what colours they would expect to be on this type of magazine. I wanted to see how with this genre of music is displayed in the eyes of other people; to see what colours come in to mind when imagining the design of an Afrobeats magazine. From this I was given a variation of colours of what the audience thought would be on a type of magazine such as this. This was a great way to view their expectations of what they would imagine it to be like, however I wanted to see which colours would be popular and most commonly used on this magazine and quite a lot of bright colours where mentioned this indicated that they do have the right idea about what it could possibly look like quite a few chose the colour blue.

7) What will you find interesting? This question was asked to really dig deep in to identifying what it is they would find interesting about this magazine and magazines in general as quite a few of them stated that they didn't like much about them. This was a great way to unpick the answer as to what they will find interesting some suggested; interesting articles about artists something that they could read and find out something new that they have never known about for example their background and musical influences, to read up on celebritys life styles, concert dates and how to get tickets, opportunities to see artists, prizes to win something of great value, and information about what their songs mean because it will be great to know where these artists get their inspiration from and to truly understand the message they are trying to put across.

8) Who is your favourite Afrobeats artist?

17% 17% 16% 50% Afrobeat artists Burna Boy P-square Wiz Kid Tiwa Savage

Though using this question I generally wanted the audience to identify an Afrobeats artist as well as state their favourite, from this I would able to I see which artists are quite well known within this audience, from this I will list names of them that they are familiar with and I will use it at an advantage to incorporate the most popular artists style on to the magazine; the colours used, style of clothing and many other strategies. Therefore as they are Afrobeat artists I could replicate their sense of style on to the magazine to give it more of a real feel of a sense of style and co-ordination, a way of doing this would be to extract ideas from the clothing worn, and analyse the pace and rhythm of their music so it can be conveyed on the page varying between a smooth and funky look.

Christal Domingo Interview

1) What are your views about having an Afrobeats magazine?

All students asked for the interview 100%

This question was asked to have an over view of people's perceptions of having an Afrobeats magazine, this question was asked for people to really elaborate on what they generally think about this idea. The vast majority agreed with the idea for the reason that it can be shared amongst others introduce it to those who haven't particularly heard or paid attention to this genre of music. To keep up with trending music and enjoy it with peers. The simple fact that its different unique and creative and something that is not often seen and appreciated. I feel that Afrobeats is a genre of music that is gradually making its way through the music industry to be at the stage where it will be recognised, most would see this creation of a this particular magazine as a way of promoting this genre, therefore with the approval of making this product will surely have beneficial outcomes. 2) What do yo think of when you hear the term Afrobeats?

This was to see what influences are given to the mind when hearing the term Afrobeats. This is to listen to what people generally think of the term and what automatically comes to mind when this is said. This was a way for me to generalise people's thoughts and possibly use this when creating the magazine, having the idea of thoughts being presented on the page of what people think Afrobeats means having a collage of thoughts.

3) What technical effects would you like to see on this magazine, what will catch your eye? This question was asked for people to specify which effects they would prefer to see on this magazine, whether to just see real images only or whether to incorporate special effects to create an animated look to the magazine; some suggested having only two contrasting colours of black and white, others wanted to have flags and cultural things to have a bright colour effect on the page, pictures with illusions were also suggested to make it look "cool" and mystical looking to really create that music feel. Whereas others simply preferred real images. This question was to pin point the type of effects people will want to see on this magazine helping me to merge ideas together to safely do this and make sure its done to their satisfaction.

4) Should colloquial of formal language be used for this magazine?

2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 0 Colloquial Formal A mixture Type of language used Number of students out of 6

Asking about the formality of this magazine was necessary for this audience to really see how they feel about it. The graph shows an equal amount of preference of formal, informal and a mixed were selected. An informal style of writing was chosen for the reason it would make it seem more interesting to read about to read things in colloquial language, a mixture was advised in writing the way young people speak (with appropriate language), this would be used as a form of entertainment, but formal language will also need to be used to keep the professionalism of the magazine and so it will be easy to comprehend as some may not understand the informal language used. Therefore having a mixture of both would be a better option when considering the content of the magazine.

5) What would you want this magazine to have? This was an opportunity for them to really say what it is they would like to have in a magazine, something that will interest them and keep them occupied, quite few of the same things where mentioned but this shows a good demand for it as well as other new things that have been suggested. Things like new song updates and interviews are on the demand also with new things like advertising dance competitions of a particular style relevant to Afrobeats. This would help greatly in gathering ideas about what to include that would be relevant when creating the magazine. Now that their requests have been listed it will contribute to the construction of the product.

6) How do you feel about an Afrobeat magazine being made?

All the students asked for the interview 100%

All students asked, generally feel its a good idea to produce a magazine such as this because the genre of music itself is coming up in the industry of music therefore it would be good to give more promotion as it isn't recognised as much but will be. Therefore having this approval motivates me even more to produce something beyond satisfaction.

7) What age range do you think Afrobeats music is directed towards?

For this question I made the mistake of not having optional boxes for people to pick from and select what age group they feel Afrobeats is aimed towards, but however leaving the question with no selection of boxes gives them the freedom of suggesting which age group they think it is with no mind restricting boxes that would only allow you to choose between the given options and result in giving a vague answer, it was good seeing the variation of age groups and comparing it to my idea of the age range.

8) Which do you think is better Afrobeats or Basment?

3.5 3 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 0 Afrobeats Bashment Both Number of students out of 6

Out of the two which I was going to choose from one was most favoured amongst the audience, as they are the trendiest genres of music within the young adults generation, it was a tricky decision to make but carrying out the research made my options easier as it was more appropriate.
