SMP5 SMP5: Goals, Objectives, and Evaluation

Spring 2014

The PES School Library Media Center Plan: Stakeholder Survey: An online survey was created for teachers by using the survey program, SurveyMonkey. The stakeholders that were selected for this particular survey were the classroom teachers. The survey displayed several questions asking teachers about the library and media center services. The survey can be viewed at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YJF5CGC. The feedback from this survey can be viewed at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-QGKB3FT/. Long-Range Goals: Based on the survey results and continuous teacher feedback, the long-term goals centered on acquiring updated appropriate resources and 21st century technology. In addition, the specific questions concerning Goal 1 about aligning curriculum indicated that increased materials for the IB program and other curriculum areas were needed. The teachers were also interested in the media specialist providing lessons for reading and research, which prompted Goal 2 on updated research websites. The creation of Goal 4 will assist the scheduling of these collaborative lessons. Targeted staff development will enrich the use of media resources, and the activities in Goal 2 are planned for further instructional purposes. Many of the teachers express the necessity to increase the budget in order to improve the quality and quantity of audiovisual/technology accessible for students and teachers. Goal 3 is specifically designed to create activities, which will empower the media center program, through funding, to achieve updated learning access to a global academic society that students today will have to function in and succeed. The following are the targeted goals: Goal 1: Provide curriculum aligned resources Goal 2: Develop updated research websites Goal 3: To acquire 21st century learner access to research through updated technology Goal 4: To increase ease of collaboration between teacher and MCS through a web scheduler

Goal 1 will assist the MCS in the cooperative element of the mission statement. Goals 2 and 3 are essential to promoting the inquisitive and self-driven components included in the mission statement. Updated resources and the continual addition of upgraded devices are vital to achieve global life long learners. The 4th goal will benefit the mission desire of attaining the ongoing improvement of connecting student/teacher and resources to these 21st century learners in a more user-friendly and more accessible manner. Short-Range Goals (or objectives): Local school leadership team will ensure that funding is applied for and purchases are made in appropriate timing. Furthermore, administrators will provide schedules for quarterly/annually (short-range) staff

Evaluation: The review of materials to be weeded out an assessed should be completed at the beginning and end of each year. The feedback from teachers/ parents/ administrators should be set up during preplanning week to develop an appropriate list of resources and technology tools. Quarterly/Monthly evaluation of materials with the curriculum will be assessed through emails between teachers and the media specialist. Post-planning goal setting for the following year with the same teachers/ parents/ administrators will ensure that adequate resources are available. Collaboration between the MCS, teachers, and administrators is essential to the development of the planned goals. All parties will need to be dedicated to pursuing the identification of media center deficiencies, and actively attack the methods to solve the inadequacies. The media center plan depends on open-mindedness, extensive and continual planning, and an intense desire for excellence. Included in the plan are check-points during the year to assure that appropriate materials are ordered and updated. The media center plan is designed to align PES mission statement to cultivate the life long learner, and this cannot be accomplished without a driven commitment. References: Create Surveys.
