I chose a interesting video called "1994 Gangsta Rap." It is about the controversies of gangsta
rap such as it being a virus that's attacking civilizations immune system. Encouraging violence
with gangsta rap and the influence of drug use. In this video, rappers describe their point of view
on these controversies, tell their side of the story, and what "Gangsta Rap" really means to them
as a rapper. Also the video includes how gangsta rap affected society such as drugs being
introduced within "gangsta rap."
For my topic, I chose gangsta rap controversies which include the contribution of violence,
drugs, and gangs.

Auguste Compte- Auguste Compte would view the video and apply his law of the three stages
which includes the theological stage, monotheism, and the metaphysical stage. The theological
stage is the belief that phenomenas are created by supernatural forces and gods, in which in
regards to gangsta rappers, they believed that pheonomenas such as poverty were created by
supernatural forces or god, therefore they choose to rap about the violence, drugs, gangs that they
grew up within poverty. Monotheism is more advanced belief of the theological stage in which
abstract forces take the place of supernatural forces and gods as a way to explain how the world
works. Furthermore, gangsta rappers rap about violence due to the fact that they grew up in such
a violent situation that abstract forces than play a role making them seem as if gangsta rap is a
virus to the society. The positivist stage is the stage in which people look for invariant laws that
control all the pheonomons or situations that happen in the world. Gangsta rappers would
perhaps rap about the government not being fair to their people as they describe in their lyrics.
Gangsta rap is another form of expression in which shows the stages that gangsta rappers have
gone through. It is not a form of advertisement
for drugs and violence.

Karl Marx- Karl Marx emphasized that power and control were the key components in which a
social order is maintained and established. Karl Marx seperates social class by the bourgeosie
"haves" and the proletariat "have nots." In which he believed that the bourgeoisie took advantage
of the proletariat in regards to employment and etc. Gangsta rappers were the proletariats whom
grew up with nothing but violence, drugs, and gangs. They begin to rap about their lifestyle as an
example of proletarians being tired of the bourgeosies explotiation and oppression. Gangsta
rappers use rap as an expression to show the bourgeosie that is it not right and
they begin to attempt to overthrow the bourgeosie as a sign of revolution.

Durkheim - Durkheim is known for his theories that focus social behavior in which is than
related to the division of labor. Durkheim would want to know why gangsta rappers rap about
violence, drugs and gangs. Durkheim would see gangster rap as a group that work together,
understand each other and to come up with an agreement. Those that suffer in poverty, violence,
and drugs would understand gangsta rapper and be part of the group. It is a way of saying that
gangster rap can be
a form of group that work together on the struggles within a society that is getting larger and
larger causing an increase in division of labor.

Paradigm- The paradigm that is mostly represented is that gangster rap is a form of expression in
which gangster rappers rap about their lifestyle that include drugs, violence, and gangs. In which
brings to our attention that their is a class difference in social rankings for those living in
poverty, and those who are well off whom may not understand the form of gangster rap and
believe that it is just a virus that is putting negativity on society as a whole.
