MARIST COLLEGE ENHANCES STUDENT EXPERIENCES
THROUGH NEW PROGRAM

Messages: 1) It is beneficial to both the college and the students for
there to be increased interaction between the adult learner
programs and the graduate programs. Graduate students could
serve as mentors to non-graduate students.
2) Adult learners could benefit from a greater understanding
of topics covered in graduate degree programs. Perhaps some
programs could be offered to non-graduate students.
3) Adult learners could benefit from professors
encouragement that they are capable of advanced degree
work.

STUDENT CAREER CENTER

Timeline and Plan
1) WEEK #1 - Staff Meeting with Department Chairs to explain
new initiative to better integrate adult degree completion programs
with graduate degree programs. Ask one concentration area to
volunteer as a pilot. Accept others if there is an enthusiastic
response.
2) WEEK #2 - Staff Meeting with all professors in targeted
programs to explain new initiative. Ask for their support in
establishing committees of staff and students to explore options.
Connect with Career Center. Explain initiative and rationale. Ask
for their support in providing information to adult learners about
value of advanced degree in targeted concentration area.
3) WEEK #3 Send out email to all eligible students. Post flyers
in prominent places around campus. Invite online students to
provide input to committees.
4) WEEK #4 - Develop committee(s) to consider ways in which
adult learners and graduate degree students might interact within
a concentration area, such as on a group project or
- Invite interested staff and students. Have professors
suggest students in their classes who might be qualified and
willing to serve on a focus group/committee to further explore
options.
Hold first committee meeting(s). Host virtual meeting(s) if there is
interest from online students to participate at this level.
Suggest committee(s) meet at their convenience a sufficient
number of times to meet deadline of reporting back ideas/results
in Week #12.
4) WEEK #12 Have committees report back results /ideas to
college administration. If there was more one concentration area
serving as pilots, then, if feasible, reporting out should be done as
a single big meeting where individual committees present results.
Announce results of committee reports in traditional and social
media press releases.
5) WEEK #14 Begin developing messaging or programs as
needed within individual concentration areas based on potential
connections as identified by the committees.
