BRANDYWINE DECORATIVE PAINTERS
MEETING MINUTES - MARCH 15, 2014
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER: 10:05 AM
J im Wharry moved to accept the previous meeting minutes as printed in the Newsletter and
Linda Tilley seconded. The treasurer's report was in the Newsletter and Pat Errickson moved
and Pat McLaughlin seconded accepting it as printed. Both reports were approved.
1st VP - Marie Lewandowski reported that the Kinetic Art Elephant/Zebra class has three
openings and is scheduled for April 26, NOT April 19, because of the Easter holiday.
Shelly Moore's domino pin would be the May project. The Poppy apron to be done in J une
can be painted on any surface; Inez Morris brought a sample of the scarecrow gourd for the
class she will be teaching in J uly; Ann Trumbull's October project will be a Sherry Nelson
design of a white breasted nuthatch. The instructions are for oil but Ann has translated the
instructions into colored pencil.
2nd VP - Pat Goodale - Sent revised membership lists. Barbara Moore thanked the group for
her February birthday card, but her "day" is in April.
Treasurer - Pat Coburn will turn books in for Audit.
Awards - J udy Crosby-Spear asked for Distinguished Service Award nominations. The award
will be presented at the November meeting.
Brandywine Bucks - Claire Hagen distributed Brandywine Bucks for all officers and
committee chairs. The chairs should distribute to their team members.
Christmas Party - Sherry Loveless said that the location will again be the Iron Hill Brewery.
Historian - J im Wharry brought albums and asked for identification for pictures lacking
names.
Hospitality - Cheryl Cain listed Shila Vora, Sue Ulmer, and Marie Diehl as the providers for
treats at the May meeting.
Library - Mary Mader said the library was available and to take items and return them on the
honor system.
Newsletter - Lois Prichard printed six copies and mailed them for $14.30. The deadline for the
next issue is April 20.
J o Lutness said to create a document in Word or Word Perfect and attach it to an e-mail
message to Lois. Lois will not have to re-type articles submitted in that format.
Outreach - J o Lutness said that today's class has a dual purpose - to learn how to do the
Christmas ornaments and to do an "extra" one to donate for the outreach. Patterns and color
pictures were received from Marie Lewandowski. Extra surfaces are $3.50 each.
The Festival of Trees has offered to let BDP sell our ornaments on November 20. Because of
a conflict with our Christmas party and another event scheduled for November 15, Lois
Prichard moved that the Christmas party be moved to November 8. J udy Schumm seconded.
After some discussion, the motion was approved. The Christmas Party will be held November
8 and we will arrange for some members to sell ornaments at the Festival of Trees on
November 20.
Pat Errickson and J o Lutness will pursue selling ornaments again - on October 25th - at the
Boothwyn Farmer's Market. Details to follow.
One of the trees at Ronald McDonald House has lost some ornaments to some youngsters
taking one. Shila Vora painted replacement ornaments.
Show and Tell - Kathy Kuzminski introduced Mary Mader who showed a painted Tea Box
and a gourd Santa; Marie Lewandowski showed a Cathy Anthony "Spring Sign" she painted
with a Chesapeake group; and Gavin Standish showed a winter scene she had completed.
J oan Davis talked about attending a Ros Stalcup Virginia Beach Seminar and the projects she
enjoyed.
Sunshine - Robin Billington was absent visiting new grandbaby. A card was passed around
for signing and to be sent to J udy Chetelat to wish her a speedy recovery from the injuries
sustained in a traffic collision.
Ways and Means - Linda Tilley asked for people to sign up for the May meeting to bring
painted pieces as raffle offerings.
State Rep - J oan Davis said she has an appointment to speak to girls at Robins Nest. She
wants to take painting to schools and hopes to get started during last week in March.
Old Business - J oanne Kilduff needs to check officers going off to arrange for next slate to be
voted on. Pat Errickson asked people to start prepping pieces for the Brandywine Bucks
Auction.
New Business - J o Lutness explained that another club had asked us to vote against a
procedural change. Unless members are at the SDP convention, they cannot vote on a
procedural matter but can vote absentee for officers.
Festival of Trees wants people to demonstrate at the Festival or give classes and J oan Davis
said she would give a class.
A form will be in the next newsletter to nominate a Brandywine Bucks Angel. Marie
Lewandowski got $5,000 for getting the auction paddles and J im harry got $500 for
varnishing them.
A suggestion was made to review the Brandywine Bucks given for various activities to
determine whether any categories need to be added, deleted, or changed.
J ohn Lutness had surgery and has ongoing medical issues including receiving monthly
infusions.
Linda Tilley reminded people that they needed to pay a fine if they were not wearing their
badges.
A brief recess was declared so Ways and Means tickets could be bought, people could sign up
for classes, and the card to J udy Chetelat could be signed.
Ways and Means winners: J udy Schumm got a scarf painted by a mystery artist; Carol
Yourgalite won the Rose Box painted by Mary Mader and the Leaf tray painted by J udy
Schumm; Mary Mader won the painted notes by J oanne Kilduff, the tissue box painted by
Ruth Diehl, and the piggy bank painted by Pat Goodale.
Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Pat Errickson and Ruth Diehl seconded. Meeting
was adjourned at 11:50.
Respectfully submitted by
J udy Crosby-Spear, Secretary
