Start Photoshop and follow these steps one by one carefully. Its easy.

Select Preset: International Paper , Size: A4, Resolution: 300pixels/inch and press OK as

Now we need a Background image for the greeting card. Google and find out a good image or
you can download the following image:

Roy Tanck's Flickr Widget

requires Flash Player 9 or better.
Create a widget like this 3D rotating photos

Next step is to bring the background image to our work area. For that you can just drag the
image from its location and drop it inside Photoshop work area. If you get a dialog box to
confirm placing the image, click Place.[ Or if you find it difficult to drag and drop, Go to File >
Open and open the background image, Press Ctrl+A, and then Ctrl+C and close the image.
Now press Ctrl+V to paste it on the work area or the A4 sheet on which you are working.]

If the background image is too big or too small, you can resize it by pressing Ctrl+T and then
click and drag the square boxes that appear. For uniform resizing, Press and hold Shift key
while you click and drag. See the pic below:

Now select the Text Tool,

and click somewhere on top of the picture, add heading Happy Birthday.

You can change the font, style, size, color etc as shown in the pic above. [ Once you select Text
tool, these options can be seen].

Next you need to find out the Layers tab. You can find it somewhere on the right side. If not,
goto Windows > Layers.

You need this Layers tab to go further.

Lets learn how to add effects to text. Double click the Happy Birthday layer for the Layer Style
window.
[Or right click on a layer, select Blending options : You will get the same Layer Style window.]

[Note: each layer has its own layer style. Double clicking on each layer will give you the Layer
Style window of that particular layer].
Select the Drop Shadow option and adjust the opacity, angle, distance, spread and size as
shown in pic:

Adjust it accordingly and press OK. You have just learned to add Shadow Effects to text

Use text tool to add more text like the name, some birthday quote etc.

Add drop shadow effects.
