The Lor d Looketh On The Hear t
(1 Samuel 16: 7)
I n Sessi on One our Focus wi l l be ar ound the Hear t. I t i s the
f i r st el ement i n our Mi ssi on of Equi ppi ng H. E. R. O. E. S.
The H r epr esents havi ng a
Hear t t o Ser ve.
I l ove the stor y i n the Bi bl e when Samuel i s i nstr ucted of the
Lor d to go and anoi nt one of Jesses sons to become the Ki ng
and r ul er of the peopl e. When Samuel saw Jesses ol dest son,
a tal l and statel y f el l ow, he thought sur el y thi s must be the
one. But the Lor d tol d hi m, Look not on hi s countenance,
or on the hei ght of hi s statur e; because I have r ef used hi m:
f or the Lor d seeth not as man seeth; f or man l ooketh on the
outwar d appear ance, but the Lor d l ooketh on the hear t.
And as the Lor d can see what i s i n the hear t, we as par ents
get a gl i mpse of that amazi ng abi l i ty as we can see and
know thr ough the spi r i t that ther e i s gr eatness wi thi n each of
our chi l dr en. Thr ough l ove and ser vi ce we begi n to see that
gr eatness i nsi de of each other. As our Hear ts our f i l l ed wi th
l ove, ser vi ce becomes a natur al outpour i ng of who we ar e.
Agai n, we can l ook to the stor y of Samuel . He was tol d by the
Lor d to anoi nt Davi d, Jesses youngest son. Soon af ter he was
anoi nted a cr y went out f r om Ki ng Saul l ooki ng f or someone
who coul d hel p cal m hi s tr oubl ed spi r i t. Davi d, who was ski l l ed

and bei ng f i l l ed wi th l ove ser ved the Ki ng. Thi s school year
ther e wi l l be many oppor tuni ti es f or us to ser ve one another.
The key i n ser vi ce i s LOVE. As the Lor d cal l ed and anoi nted
Davi d to be the next Ki ng, the Lor d has cal l ed us together. We
each have i t wi thi n us to become ever yday Her oes. Thr ough
Hi s str ength and power our Hear ts wi l l be f i l l ed wi th l ove and
our ser vi ce wi l l be a bl essi ng to our f ami l i es, i n our communi ty

Preparati on for Sessi on One
Week One
As we f ocus on the Hear t i n our
f i r st sessi on we want to hel p
connect the pr esent wi th the
past. To do so, each f ami l y
shoul d come pr epar ed to shar e
a shor t 2- 3 mi nute stor y about
one of thei r ancestor s. Wer e
they an ever yday her o i n thei r
gener ati on? You may have to do
some r esear ch to f i nd a good
stor y.
El l i e Ander son has r esear ched
mor e than a thousand of her own
ancestor s al ong wi th spendi ng
countl ess hour s hel pi ng wi th
i ndexi ng. We have asked her to
shar e some ti ps on how to f i nd
your ancestor s stor i es.
El l i es Ti ps:
How to f i nd your ancestor s stor i es:
Ther e ar e two ways to do thi s.
#1 Go to Fami l ySear ch. or g and l og i nto your account. I t i s the
same as your l ds. or g account, so i f you ar e a member of the
chur ch you shoul d have one. Once you l og i n, i t shoul d take
you to the home page. Look at the top of the page. Ther e ar e
f i ve mai n buttons. Hover your cur ser over the wor d Memor i es.
A dr op down menu wi l l appear. Cl i ck on Peopl e. A bunch of
pi ctur es shoul d appear. You ar e l ooki ng f or thei r memor i es.
Thei r memor i es ar e stor i es, documents, and pi ctur es. To vi ew an
ancestor s memor i es, cl i ck on thei r pi ctur e. I t wi l l then take you
to al l of thei r memor i es. You can l ook f or documents and text
that contai n stor i es or f acts about them and ther e you go!
#2. Go to one of your gr andpar ents or gr andaunts or uncl es
and ask them to tel l you an i nter esti ng f act or stor y about one
of your ancestor s. You can then r etel l the stor y. You may al so
want to sear ch f or the name of the per son you ar e tal ki ng
about i n your f ami l y tr ee. I f the stor y you wer e tol d i snt i n
ther e, you may want to type i t up i n a wor d document and
upl oad i t to the f ami l y tr ee. Then you woul d need to attach
i t to that ancestor and then you and other s wi l l l ear n and be
r emi nded by i t. Get to know the wonder f ul peopl e that came
bef or e you, and be that per son f or your chi l dr en!
