SCHOOL PROPERTIES DISPOSITION

When equipment, books and materials become worn out, obsolete, surplus, or otherwise
unusable in the schools, the Superintendent may authorize their disposal in a manner to the
district's best advantage, provided that the unit value of the items is not more than $5,000. If
values are in excess of that amount, formal authorization for negotiated sale or for putting the
items to bid will be obtained from the Board.

Before disposition of district property, a notice that surplus property will be sent to all schools and
departments to enable consideration for further use of the property. Subsequently, remaining
property disposition will take place according to the following procedures.

To assure all patrons receive an equal opportunity in purchasing items with a unit value over
$500, all sales will be advertised in advance in advance to the public for at least 15 days.
Depending upon the value of the property and or items, the Board may determine to sell through
either an auction or bidding process. The Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
through the news media. Revenue received from sale of surplus items real property will be
deposited as sale of fixed assets in the school district and or building budgets to be determined
by the Board or his/her designee.

Surplus personal property will be classified for disposal according to the resale value of the item.

1. Items having a resale value will be disposed of as follows:


a. Items having a fair market value of $5,000 or less may be disposed of by closed
bid, auction, or general sale.
b. Items having a fair market value of more than $5,000 will be advertised for sale
to the highest bidder.
c. The Board shall reserve the right to reject any or all bids for the purchase of
district personal property.

Items considered to be useable and not sold at the time of the bidding may be offered the
following business day at an amount to be determined by the superintendent or his designee.
Remaining items after that will be offered without cost to first come, first served basis. shall be
retained for sale at the next bid time or until someone offers a bid comparable to that for which a
similar item was sold. It is anticipated that at least one disposition sale will occur each year. The
proceeds will be deposited in the school district general fund as sale of fixed assets or
miscellaneous revenue.

2. Items having no resale value or of insufficient value to defray the cost of sale may be
disposed of as follows:
a. Salvageable parts may be removed for use in restoring inoperable district
equipment to an operable condition and the remainder of the items disposed of
for junk value or taken to the refuse collection center.
b. Usable parts may be removed and stored and the remainder of the item disposed
of for junk value or taken to the refuse collection center.
c. Surplus items may be disposed of for junk value or taken to the refuse collection
center.
d. Worn and outmoded books will not be destroyed until they have been offered to
the students, charitable organizations, and made available to the general public.
