DC Tech Meetup: Digital DC Tech Fund Edition
Over four hundred innovators, investors, and technology enthusiasts
joined the DC Tech Meetup on Monday October 6 to celebrate the vibrant
community of local and international tech-based businesses that are thriving
in the District. Mayor Gray was on hand to announce the recipients of the
2014 Digital DC Tech Fund. Administered by the Office of the Deputy Mayor
for Planning and Economic Development, the fund awards grants of $25,000
to $200,000 to support the growth of DCs tech industry specifically the
Digital DC Tech Opportunity Corridor, which runs roughly from Petworth to
the Convention Center.
DC Punk Archive
In support of the Washingtoniana Divisions mission to collect, preserve,
and provide access to primary source materials that document the history
and culture of the local city, DCPL has established a DC Punk Archive. A year
after initiating planning and community outreach, DCPL received donations
of several collections, secured grant funding to design an online portal for
access to collections, and began engaging the public through programming,
volunteer training, and an exhibition. 200 people somehow found their way
down to the A-Level of the MLK Library for a celebratory punk concert on
October 2.

New to DCPL
Meet Danielle Zoller
As the librarian to the DC Jail, Danielle Zoller
is assisting with the planning, coordination,
and implementation of library service to
the incarcerated population throughout
the 18-unit DC Jail Facility. Danielle has
over two years of experience working as
a librarian in the Correctional Treatment
Facility adjacent to the jail. Her experience
is proving invaluable as we work with the
Department of Corrections on policies and
procedures for the new library.
Looking Ahead
Meet Anne Ledford
As the School Liaison in the Programs and
Partnerships department, Anne Ledford, is
working to build meaningful relationships
and coordinate outreach with the Districts
public, private and charter schools. Anne
is a Kentucky native who has been living
in DC for the past six years. Since joining
the Programs & Partnerships team in
September, Anne has already worked with
DCPS to host over 100 DCPS librarians
for a professional development day at
the MLK Library, and she is developing
a partnership with the DC Prep Benning
Elementary charter school to pilot offering
and evaluating library services in a charter
school setting.
