GOAL:

Create awareness about children who are battling with abusive families and foster
care along with the ways the general population in the community can help the
babies and children in foster care who are dealing with these hardships.
HOW THEY GOT THERE:
Find out what the top reasons children are in foster care vs. what people think the
top reasons are?
There are children battling with child abuse and unfit (alcoholics, suicidal parents,
depressed parents, Drug involved, etc) families. This makes them unable to return
home leaving them in the hands of foster care. Sometimes children are even going
back and forth between foster and bio parents every time the bio parents mess up.
When do they draw the line?
WHAT FOSTER CARE CHILDREN AND BABIES DEAL WITH:

Not enough human interaction.

Every time a child changes foster homes they lose 2-3month in school.
Having a constant unstable life until their bio parents get it together.
Brothers and sisters are split apart.
The Childrens welfare system often put children in foster homes wherever
they fit rather then seeing if that foster family is a good fit for the child. ( do
the foster parents know how to guide and council that childs specific issues
and insecurities?)
Dont really have any one person there for them 100%
They are kicked out at 18.
Kids are expensive! Foster parents wouldnt be able to give children the small
enjoyments of life that children in well off families are able to enjoy.

Try to get an interview(email or if they are willing to submit a video) with a

teen(s) that has been through foster care. To show my audience these are real life
issues. (Rhetorical Concept: Pathos)
WHO IS ALREADY TRYING TO HELP:
There are a number of non profit organizations- after talking with them I have found
out some things they still need help with. ( Childrens home society of Florida - no
one donates baby items)
State Statistics on how many kids these organizations help and how they do it. But
what more they need help with? What kind of things are hard to accomplish
without the help of community volunteers.
WAYS WE CAN HELP:

Foster care is expensive $$. Create drives to collect donated supplies. Show
people how they can easily host a drive and take part in donating
o host one my self at? UCF?
Reach out to Greek , and many organizations interested in
helping their community on campus ( MAPS, GOLDEN KEY,
VOLUNTEER UCF) Reach out to the Social Work Major
students in the College of health and Public Affairs as well as
those studying psychology of families and children.
( RHETORICAL CONCEPT: Identify with others)?
I have contacted Golden Hearts at UCF (Organziation for foster
students) but it does not still seem active at UCF. Waiting for
emai reply
Create a flyer saying what the cause is, why and when the
event is and hand it out to the groups I am reaching out too.
See if Childrens home society of florida will accept my
donations and any guidelines they have.

Becoming Volunteers Mentoring programs specific to children dealing with

these issues such us Big Brother Big Sister. CASA for children. (Court
Appointed Special Advocates for Children)

WAYS I CAN HELP:

Create Donations drive

o **Details above**
Create facebook page to share this information.
Social Media to advertise the cause and spread the awareness and the
information on the Donations Drive.
Create flyers to raise awareness.
Pass out information about mentoring programs to physically show people
how to get involve (instead of depending on them to look up the information
when they get home themselves)
Tell People at UCF about the Golden Hearts Club at UCF (if still Active) who
have dealt with the hardships of foster care and tell them they should get
involved.

SIDE NOTE: Maybe if the normal civilian population creates a larger awareness for
the children, the higher ups and those involved with politics and Childrens
Welfare laws will push for better laws protecting and providing for the children.
But the focus for this project is to create awareness among the general population
and show them what they can do to help.
