Lieutenant Governor to visit Niagara region


Toronto, December 9, 2014. The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario, will travel to several municipalities in the Niagara region to take part in events on
Wednesday, December 10, 2014.
Her Honour said: During my first visit to the Niagara region as Lieutenant Governor, I look
forward to meeting with many of the people and organizations that have enhanced our
understanding of economic and environmental sustainability. I appreciate having the chance to
observe firsthand the ongoing innovation of Niagara College and Brock University in ecological
restoration. This visit is a great opportunity to engage with the people of this diverse region.

Niagara-on-the-Lake
9 a.m. Civic reception, community tour
Following an introductory courtesy call with Mr. Pat Darte, Lord Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake,
Her Honour will be welcomed by town councillors and deliver brief remarks during a civic
reception at Town Hall. Her Honour will then participate in a tour of the Business Heritage
District (Old Town), including visits at the Shaw Festival Theatre and the Niagara Historical
Museum.

10:45 a.m. Tour of Niagara College
Her Honour will meet with administration and student leaders at the Wine Visitor and
Education Centre at Niagara College before participating in a tour of the Niagara College
Teaching Winery. The tour will conclude at the greenhouse and nursery with a presentation
about the colleges environmental and horticultural programs.

11:45 a.m. Working lunch


Following a tour of the culinary innovation labs at the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at
Niagara College, Her Honour will host a working lunch prepared by the colleges culinary and
hospitality students. Informal discussions will focus on topics such as the regions viticulture
and winemaking, food innovation, horticulture, ecosystem restoration, and sustainability.
Present at the lunch will be members of Niagara Colleges administration, as well as local
industry leaders and students. Her Honour will meet members of the Junior Culinary Team
Canada.

St Catharines
2 p.m. Visit to Brock University, Environmental Sustainability Research Centre
Accompanied by university president Dr. Jack Lightstone, Her Honour will take a tour of the
Environmental Sustainability Research Centre. Her Honour will then take part in a discussion
with university students led by Dr. Ryan Plummer, the centres director.
